Title says all really. I tried various versions of the command, but the results always disappear immediately.
I found a recommendation to use: cmd /k ipconfig /all
The results stay on screen, but only list for my own PC, not all the devices on my LAN.
I don't expect a list of my Wi-Fi devices, but didn't it previously list all LAN connected devices?
I'm trying to create fixed IP addresses for my PC, my PC server & my new media unit.
I know the IP they normally use, but when I select manual IP, it doesn't list the various device options, so which device am I setting the fixed IP for?
I guess the subject PC?
There is no option in the GU for the media server (Brennan B3) that lets me select fixed IP, so given I know the IP (its displayed) how do I fix it?

I'm confused!

John

ipconfig command is for local computer only.

When you just run a command from, say, the search bar, it will disappear. What you need to do it open the cmd,exe program first, and then type the command in there. However, it's moot since ipconfig is not the solution here anyway.

Let's get back to basics - are you trying to assign a static IP address to your media server so it never changes? The best way is on device itself, according to networking experts, but the second best way is to go into your router and, depending upon the manufacturer, have the router reserve the address it currently has so that, as long as it is connected to this network, the router will always give it that same IP address from now on, and will not let any other device ever get that IP address.

There are a few caveats - a router firmware upgrade might erase that DHCP reservation, and if the Media server is cloning the MAC address of another device, that device can too request and get that same IP address, but other than that, with the media server GUI not having the option to statically assign a dedicated IP address from within, this will probably be your best shot.

Any idea why IP config does not stay on screen?

Because you are not starting it correctly.

open a CMD prompt (type CMD.exe into run box) then type ipconfig into the black box and hit return.

Exactly.

@britgeezer - that is what I meant by

You cannot run CLI commands from a search box (well, with caveats being you can run them but they have the propensity to run and exit, like you've noticed), so you need to open the command line interpreter (in Windows case, it's cmd.exe) first and then run the commands in that CLI. Windows 11 may have replaced CMD.exe from the start button's context menu (right click on start button) with Windows Terminal, but terminal is like an All in One app that let's you access cmd.exe, powershell, and other stuff, if installed, and you can still run cmd.exe directly from the start menu by searching for it as well.

cmd /k doesn't exit after running your command, it should stay open and onscreen.

if you are really wedded to starting all in one line rather than just doing what has been suggested already then the command to run is

a) 1693678626617.png+R (to get Run box)

then enter

b) cmd /k "ipconfig.exe" /all

and hit return

Yeah, the OP said that. But, it doesn't give him the info he actually needs.

doesn't work, it provides cmd line prompt but doesn't run ipconfig - which is why you need to use run, not search

Works perfectly fine from the run box for me.

You've never tried (works the same in W11)?

Typing it into the Windows 11 search from the start menu fails. It opens cmd and nothing else.

I have the actual Windows search bar in the taskbar disabled, so didn't try it that way.

Agreed, I was responding to the comment from @garlin who stated that my command line does work and that you didn't need to use the run box to make it work

Yup. Another one bites the dust lol.

At least it still works from the run dialog.

Oh, also from PowerToys Run app, too (glorified fancy Material themed run dialog, so it makes sense that it works there as well).
