Hello,

Not the first time I have this issue, but my french keyboard is not quite working.
In regesitry : Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Keyboard Layout\Preload REGSZ set to 040.

It is partially working but special char (even the [at] is not working and other special char eg I canêt close this bracket

Sorry for being short but keyboard and OSK is painful !

Solved : for some reason, rebooting a couple of time helped. I don't know why...

There are several French keyboard layouts. Make sure you add the appropriate for your country. If it is already added but corrupt, you need to remove it and add it again. To allow you remove it you must have at least one different layout and make it default.

Try to change the keyboard choice in Paramètres. I guess it is now set to Français ( Standard, AZERTY).
Add a new keyboard, Français ( Traditionnel, AZERTY).
That is the one that works for me.
Paramètres > Heure et langue > Langue et région.
Then under Langue, click on the three dots on the right of Français ( France ).
Then in the fly out menu Options linguistique.
Scroll down to the bottom to Claviers and click Ajouter un clavier.
There you pick Français ( Traditionnel, AZERTY).
You could remove Français ( Standard, AZERTY) or just switch between the two.
I this isn't the solution just put it back as it was.

Thank, I'll bookmark this page. Sometimes, major Windows Update will reset the keyboard layout en Us-En because Windows display language is English.

But is your keyboard set as Standard or Legacy?

Mine is US English too but I have added Greek as second keyboard layout. I suggest you do the same. Add French as second and make it default. Every new update should not affect your default keyboard layout again. You can just ignore US English and use only the French layout.

It is now set a Legacy. I don't know much about keyboard settings, but this is the one I need to type "é", "à" or even special character.
I made a .reg file to change it easily.
