Does this still have the ARC control center that keeps asking for elevation on log in?

Edit: I see it does. Pretty much a dealbreaker just for annoyance factor - plus it's fairly fundamental functionality that should not be encumbered in this way. If you maybe access specific functions within ARC control then it could/may require elevation but just on launch is pretty poor. It has been a KI for some time, so this does not inspire confidence.

I realise Nvidia is not free of issues and I've mentioned AMD elsewhere but to keep seeing issues with all new hardware means they don't have the developer talent to make the new hardware work flawlessly* in the current environment.

* Functionally would be a start!

In the past, I have installed Beta versions (more out of curiosity) and I find they get overwritten by the official version by Windows Update.

For small drivers, I leave both on device and just set the one I want in Device Manager. So long as Windows update sees you have the version it wants to install, it does not attempt o redownload and install.

However, the Intel Graphics drivers are over 1.6 GB, so I end up having to use WUSHOWHIDE.

I just tend not to bother with Beta Graphics drivers as a consequence.

What exactly does "'Arc Control' standalone desktop mode" entail?

I'm tempted to try to see if that is an optional install that basically means it doesn't load each time the PC is started and ask for elevation. But, to be frank I've been burned enough by the previous installs that I'm not prepared to really invest the time to try and then almost inevitably "roll back" (which we all know is not really a roll back - and AFAIU now System Restore doesn't work on W11 22H2 since Jan update, "when was it ever reliable?" I hear you ask / counter

You can prevent it from loading, simply by disabling it in startup apps.

Thank you. I’d rather not run an intelligent workaround though. To be fair, I don’t think there’s any compelling security reason to run these over build 3111?

Is there an Intel Graphics HD 4600 driver I can use with Windows 11 which lets me use core isolation and if so, where do I find it? Otherwise, I'll just use the MS basic display adapter.

AIUI core isolation isn't a GPU driver function. Core isolation is a Windows 10 Device Security option (HVCI) and will only work with CPUs that support hardware virtualisation.

To enable virtualisation, you will need to check your CPU ARK entry (hint: Google CPU name + 'ARK' no quotes) then check for VT-x (it will need to be enabled in BIOS). There could well be a performance hit on older CPUs, IME I've enabled HVCI on Skylake and higher without observable penalty in the "normal" operation of the CPU as far as I use it.

But, you should find the Windows 10 driver for 4th Gen will load and work. Also bear in mind the Haswell CPUs lack official Windows 11 support and are EOL at Intel also.

Your CPU is 4th Gen - you need at least a 7th Gen Intel CPU (tho, even for 7th gen the support is limited to High End line) - or more like 8th Gen and above to cover most CPUs from that generation. No Driver (even custom made) - can bypass a hardware requirement. Here's the full list of Intel Supported CPUs:

I forced Windows11 to be installed on this 4th gen CPU using the method as post 4 here Upgrade to Windows 11 - Windows 10 Help Forums.

I disabled the Intel GPU in the BIOS since I already have a separate NVidia GPU which is Windows 11 compliant. All works fine now despite the hardware limitations required by Microsoft including having no TPU.

Nvidia GeForce 700M series EOL 2019 by Nvidia, it's not supported in Windows 11 as it (W11) wasn't released. Maybe legacy drivers.

You should run Windows 10 and consider retiring the device in October 2025.

I'm discussing a different PC I'm updating which has a GIGABYTE GA-Z87-HD3 mainboard, i5 4670K and separate GeForce GTX 1050Ti GPU. The Dell laptop shown in my signature (Core i7 Mobile i7-4500U) has been running Windows 11 for while with both Intel & Nvidia GPU drivers working and core isolation set.

Installing Windows 11 - is one thing (after all this is Microsoft.... not Apple). The workarounds were quite easy to implement - even shortly after W11 was released. Tho, same can't be said about windows features - design around a hardware chip - which can't be be found in a 4th Gen processor like yours. Point being: this is not a software limitation (as was/is the case with Installing Windows 11 on older hardware) - but a hardware limitation. Your Hardware does not support TPM 2.0 - which is among the requirements for activating Core Isolation/Memory integrity:

Thanks for clarifying. The 1050Ti will be okay for a couple of years. The i5-4670K is still in the same boat as the i7 in the laptop. If you have it enabled on the laptop I'm a bit mystified as to how you needed the advice for the desktop.

I don't think HVCI requires TPM 2.0, but it is on the official hardware requirement for Windows 11, which can be sidestepped at the cost of a) running an unsupported CPU, b) risking MS turning off the tap on security or feature updates at any time.

Business chipsets of that era would have TPM 1.2 possibly, but again it's not meeting the minimum spec.

I would add that it is an untested supposition for me anyway, I would not consider bypassing the hardware requirement to install Windows 11. Even 8th Gen CPUs will be EOL before the W11 lifecycle is over. A little like the pre 6th Gen stuff on W10 now. Win 10 on 6th Gen was initially a requirement, it wasn't keen on installing under Win 7 without similar hacks.

Both the PCs I mentioned above don't have a TPM at all yet core isolation is enabled,. Your assertion appears to be wrong.
