Let's install Windows 11 on incompatible hardware

My experience with 23H2 is that unsupported computers fail at 70-75% of the first stage (before even the first restart), if you don't disconnect from the internet. To be honest, this is with replacing the appraiserres.dll file from Setup cache. I haven't tried that with the setup /product server method, but better safe than sorry, so I always disconnect and don't connect until complete. If you have to disconnect in 23H2, I belive you have to disconnect in 24H2 as well, why risk it? You are not supposed to use the computer until the upgrade is completed, anyway.

Yes, setup.exe /product server is the cleanest and simplest method.

Correction: it is the only method that still works, until Rufus next version which will deal with that. Even importing the Registry keys as suggested here (from Rufus website) to bypass compatibility check, I would better use the "server" method, I don't risk it.

after using the new rufus reg command for bypassing upgrade windows, my setup.exe dosent open.
when double click on setup.exe , not work..... not in rufus usb not in hard drive

Spapakons, It would be great if you would NOT post stuff that's unsubstantiated. It isn't the only method and the Rufus registry changes are in fact going into the next version.

If you see my post where I explain how I succeeded to install 24H2 on my main PC (2nd system specs), you will see that I have already tried to use the official 24H2 ISO directly in a virtual machine and confirmed that the known Registry hacks still work to bypass compatibility check. I just didn't proceed because I wanted to upgrade the virtual machine from 23H2 rather than do a clean installation. Of course a Rufus patched 24H2 USB should also work for a clean installation, haven't checked. I was referring to upgrading from 23H2 using the original unmodified 24H2 ISO. The old method of replacing the appraiserres.dll file doesn't work in unmodified 24H2 and this is the reason current Rufus version also doesn't work, because it simply replaces this file as in earlier Windows 11 versions. That is why they posted on their website the commands to remove and add keys in Registry to bypass compatibility check and yes, I have also read that these commands will be embedded in the next Rufus version. Another way to upgrade is to create a hybrid 23H2/24H2 USB which essentially uses the 23H2 Setup (where all known bypass methods work) to install 24H2 instead. To do that, you create a Windows 11 23H2 USB flash drive with Rufus and then replace the sources\install.wim file with the respective file from 24H2 ISO. This should work by just running Setup, but in order to be on the safe side, I used setup /product servermainly because I had to leave home and didn't have the time to test Setup alone and fail. And yes, I insist on disconnecting from the internet to improve chances of success, why risk it? No need to get mad. Just read carefully what I post.

Because Setup opens install.wim and use these files to install Windows. If this is the 24H2 version of the file, it installs 24H2. The same way works using a Windows 10/11 hybrid USB to install Windows 11 using Windows 10 Setup without compatibility check. Too bad since 23H2 the hybrid Windows 10/11 USB works only in Legacy BIOS (MBR) and not in UEFI (GPT) mode. I tried it in UEFI mode with 23H2 but it displays an error after the first restart. In Legacy BIOS mode works OK. Haven't checked with 24H2, but it should work too.

- Download Windows 11 24H2 ISO file, select the option "Download Windows 11 Disk Image (ISO) for x64 devices."
- Mount the ISO file.
- Run the following command, replace "X" with the drive letter of the mounted iso file.

X:\setup.exe /product server

In this mode, the Windows 11 installer thinks it is installing Windows Server Edition and does not check the Windows 11 system requirements.





How to bypass Windows 11 24H2 system requirements to perform a clean install?

Download Windows 11 24H2 ISO file, select the option "Download Windows 11 Disk Image (ISO) for x64 devices."

Insert your USB flash drive. In Rufus, select the ISO file you downloaded. Under Partition scheme, select the GPT or MBR option. You cannot change the Target system and File system options.

Option 1.

Rufus settings to create UEFI bootable USB.

- Partition scheme: GPT

"GPT" means installing Windows on a GPT disk (UEFI/GPT installation).

- Check the "Remove requirement for 4GB+ RAM, Secure Boot and TPM 2.0" option.

Boot the USB using UEFI mode (in the boot menu, select your USB with the UEFI prefix). If you try to boot the USB in BIOS mode, you get an error message created by Rufus: "ERROR: BIOS/LEGACY BOOT OF UEFI-ONLY MEDIA."





Option 2.

Rufus settings to create BIOS bootable USB.

"BIOS" means legacy BIOS or CSM (Compatibility Support Module).

- Partition scheme: MBR

"MBR" means installing Windows on an MBR disk (BIOS/MBR installation).

- Check the "Remove requirement for 4GB+ RAM, Secure Boot and TPM 2.0" option.

Boot the USB using BIOS mode (in the boot menu, select your USB without the UEFI prefix).

In Rufus, select "Partition scheme: MBR" if you have an old computer that does not have UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface).

Or your computer has UEFI with CSM enabled and you want to install Windows on an MBR disk (this is not a recommended option).
