To be fair, UUP dump assembles a base ISO layer from the same UUP files that power Windows Update. Then their script will integrate the expected KB's required to bring it to THAT build level.

The non-standard wrinkle is when assembling the ISO, you can instruct UUP dump to skip adding the default UWP Apps, so they're never present in the first place. It's pre-debloating.

If you're using UUP dump to create a normal ISO you can get from MS or MCT, then it's the wrong reason to use the site. It's to build releases you can't make yourself, or safely debloat apps in the image.

Compatibility report: I use AnyDesk to remotely connect to my main PC (2nd system specs) from work. I have English US and Greek keyboard layouts and I had some difficulty switching layout in 23H2. If I pressed SHIFT+ALT too fast, only the local computer would change and the remote would remain at the previous layout. This doesn't prevent me from typing as the local computer has higher priority than the remote, but no key combination would work unless both keyboard layouts are the same. After the upgrade to 24H2 I noticed that both the local and the remote keyboard layouts change at the same time, even if I press the combination fast, without issues as they should. That's one annoying bug fixed by 24H2. Who said 24H2 has only issues?

Hopefully I won't get reprimanded for posting this here, but it is related to upgrading to 24H2. Prior to my successful upgrade on my 2013 ASUS laptop to 24H2, I downloaded the CPU-Z program to make sure I had SSE 4.2, which I did, so that is why the other workarounds were successful to get me to 24H2. Now I want to delete the CPU-Z program, but can't find it listed in Programs and Features in Control Panel, or on my Tools/Apps list. I see the files in the CPU-Z folder on my root directory. Anyone know how to correctly delete this program?

Did you download the CPU-Z setup (cpu-z_2.11-en.exe) or ZIP (cpu-z_2.11-en.zip)? The .exe would have installed CPU-Z and put it in C:\Program Files and added it to the Start menu, while the ZIP just needs to be extracted somewhere and can be run as a standalone program without installing. As your CPU-Z folder is in the root of C: then I'm guessing it was the ZIP. If so, then you can just delete the folder.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    My SYSTEM SIX is a Dell Latitude 5550, Core Ultra 7 165H, 64GB RAM, 1TB NVMe SSD, supported device, Windows 11 Pro 24H2, Hyper-V host machine. Updated to 25H2 on 30th September 2025.

    My SYSTEM SEVEN is a Lenovo Thinkpad T580, Intel Core i7-8650U, 16GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD + 2nd 512GB NVMe SSD, a supported device for Windows 11. This is my current general purpose 'main machine'. The installed Windows 11 Home from my System One has been migrated to this machine.
Bree is spot on. Just to add some additional info, the ZIP file version is also known as a "portable" version. There are a number of programs that are available either with an installer or as a portable version. Portable versions are handy because they require no installation. That is especially useful if you want to just drop some programs on a thumb drive that you can then run on any computer, even someone else's computer, where you don't want to have to install the program. You can simply run it on the thumb drive and when done there is no sign of the program on that computer.

Just be aware that for some programs, there may be some limitations (typically small limitations) when compared with the installable version.

CPU-Z, Crystal Disk Mark and Crystal Disk Info all list their "portable" versions as ZIP files,
in the download sections on their sites.

Insert your USB flash drive. In Rufus, select the ISO file you downloaded. Under Partition scheme, select the GPT or MBR option. You cannot change the Target system and File system options.

Option 1.

Rufus settings to create UEFI bootable USB.

- Partition scheme: GPT

"GPT" means installing Windows on a GPT disk (UEFI/GPT installation).

- Check the "Remove requirement for 4GB+ RAM, Secure Boot and TPM 2.0" option.

Boot the USB using UEFI mode (in the boot menu, select your USB with the UEFI prefix). If you try to boot the USB in BIOS mode, you get an error message created by Rufus: "ERROR: BIOS/LEGACY BOOT OF UEFI-ONLY MEDIA."

"MBR" means installing Windows on an MBR disk (BIOS/MBR installation).

In Rufus, select "Partition scheme: MBR" if you have an old computer that does not have UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface).

Or your computer has UEFI with CSM enabled and you want to install Windows on an MBR disk (this is not a recommended option).

I just used the command setup /product server to update an old 'incompatible' Dell laptop to 24H2 which worked fine.

I was successful with doing an in-place upgrade to Win 11 24H2 using a usb made with Rufus 4.6 beta. Ran setup from within windows. During the upgrade, I got a warning about upgrading the unsupported PC. I accepted and the upgrade from Windows 10 was successful.

I backed up the Windows 10 system, disconnected from the internet. So far so good, but I'm a little hesitant to upgrade from 1774 to 2033. The system is an old HP AIO with UEFI BIOS with secure boot, but no TPM.

I had no issues apart occasionally the search icon disappears and my wireless USB dongle loses connection for a few seconds when I use my USB 3.0 port. See my earlier posts.

Compatibility report: HyperTerminal works in 24H2!

Remember the little utility in Windows XP called HyperTerminal that could connect to other devices using the serial (COM1:, COM2:) ports or other? We have an old computer at work running Windows XP and we use HyperTerminal to test some network switches and other old devices. We connect using a serial null modem cable, login, see its IP address and then we can manually configure our PC IP address to connect using the web interface in order to configure the switch. Recently I added RAM to this old computer and I decided it was about time to be upgraded. So I first upgraded to Windows Vista 32-bit, so I wouldn't lose any data or having to reinstall our applications, and then I will upgrade to Windows 7 32-bit. While checking everything is OK in Vista before upgrading to 7, I realized HyperTerminal is not available in Vista! "Don't panic, there must be an alternative", I thought. A little Google search revealed that I can copy certain files from Windows XP and use HyperTerminal in Vista or higher, thank Goodness! I did and it worked again. Just out of curiosity, I tried to load HyperTerminal in Windows 11 24H2 and it works! It asked for some old modem era settings, like if I use a code to call, if I use pulse or tone dialing etc, but after these it worked! Who said upgrading to a newer Windows version sacrifices old functionality? It might be so at first, but there are workarounds.

Weird bug with JPEG images:
I recently created several 4K screenshots using Snipping Tool and saving as .jpg When I went to the folder to inspect the screenshots, I realized the first 4-5 had only a large icon, no image preview while the others had all preview. I thought the first ones where bad, but opening them in Paint did not indicate any issue and MediaInfo reported the correct data 3840x2160 YUV 422 8-bit. Weird. While reading some threads I went again to the folder after a few minutes and all images now have a preview, as expected. Just to let you know, if you see the same issue, don't panic. It might be that File Explorer did not refresh properly all the folder contents due to image size or whatever else. Just give it some time and check again. I thought the bug wasn't worth to create a new thread, so I reported it here.

While reading some threads I went again to the folder after a few minutes and all images now have a preview, as expected. Just to let you know, if you see the same issue, don't panic. It might be that File Explorer did not refresh properly all the folder contents due to image size or whatever else. Just give it some time and check again. I thought the bug wasn't worth to create a new thread, so I reported it here.

My computer #6 is an HP x360 laptop I love because of its 12.5" monitor. No good replacements out there with compatible hardware for Win 11. So I regularly ruminate over whether I want to keep running 10 on it or play with ways to install 11. I really don't want to keep 10 because then I have to ever-so-infrequently remember how 10 is organized.
