Lock Screen Spotlight images are not refreshing daily. I have to manually force them using some of the instructions in the Lifewire article here: How to Fix It When Windows Spotlight Is Not Working on Windows 10 (lifewire.com).

I disable Lock screen Spotlight in the Personalization page by choosing "Picture", reboot, then run the set of DOS commands (fixing the forward slash errors, of course) and then the PowerShell command. Reboot, turn Lock Screen Spotlight back on, then reboot again before the images reappear. I usually have to repeat this procedure twice before I see a favorable result.

Why isn't this happening automatically? Does Windows 11 have a different refresh rate than Windows 10; i.e., a weekly refresh rate or some other frequency instead of daily? Is there some kind of registry entry I can modify (or add)? I'm not a programmer but "I know enough to be dangerous," as the old saying goes.

My first Intel build from 2015. Still runs! Needs a new M.2 SSD and more storage, though, to be more useful than it already is. It's set up in the guest bedroom for our infrequent overnight visitors' use. I also use it in a VMware environment to try out new software before I load it onto my main PC, or to run applications that consume a lot of time and resources I don't want my main PC to interrupt while I'm busy with something else.

Thanks, glasskuter, for the info. Spotlight is reset. Sorry it took so long to reply. However, I don't think the images are changing daily. I reset it using the commands in Brink's tutorial (the PS command was similar except it was more complex than the one in the Lifewire article), but I saw only two new images: One old one, two or three portrait-formatted images, and two inconsequential files. I'll have to look again tomorrow or the next day. It's been too long since I reset Spotlight to know exactly when the new images appeared. I'll post my results after digging into this further.

This is a continuing problem with Windows 10/11. I use the app Dynamic Theme to override the built in Spotlight settings.

Interesting, Steve C.

I actually copy the source Spotlight images that are buried in my %USERPROFILE% subfolder, give them the ".JPG" extension and then rename them for whatever they are or wherever they're located by researching them with Google Image Search or Bing Image Search. Then I add them to my Spotlight picture album that I created for my slideshow pictures.

My desktop background is set to use the slideshow library I created, changing randomly every 10 minutes. I have almost 500 images from when WIN 10 incorporated Spotlight. One quirk, though. Every time the picture changes, the system jumps to the previous window that I was using. Not a problem for the most part. I increase the interval between picture changes if I'm working on something sensitive where every 10 minutes becomes bothersome. Changing every 30 seconds is too bothersome. I like 10 minutes because I minimize all open applications and use the slideshow as a screensaver if I'm going to be away from my PC for a while. Anything much longer than 30 minutes or so could burn into the screen.

glaskutter, it's been a little over 24 hours since I reset Spotlight. I'll give it another day before I call it quits.

This is a very good little app indeed Steve.

Well, the Spotlight images automatically change daily now without me having to force them to. But today's images reset to images presented over 48 hours ago, i.e., no new images today. I'll take what I can get, considering. Thanks, glaskuter.
