how to make yourself an administrator on windows 11 desktop.

As i'm trying to run a sfc /scannow and it asks me to make myself an admin. I'm the only user on my computer.

Was looking at some youtube videos and it said to go too "family and other users" but this doesn't show up on my settings anywhere.

You can make an installer usb, boot it, “repair” and use Command Prompt. Run:

move c:\windows\system32\utilman.exe c:\

copy c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe

c:\windows\system32\utilman.exe

Then boot back into your windows. Click the ease of access icon in bottom right. It will open command prompt as admin. Run:

net localgroup administrators UserName /add

As you are a new user, for future reference, you did not make it clear you already had admin rights.

First line implied you want to set up a new admin account which was not what you wanted.

Your issue was easy to solve but we would have got there quicker if you had made it clearer what your issue was.

This is not intended as criticism but purely to help you help us in future.
