New Build: Windows 11 or 10?

Hi,

in the next month i will buy some new hardware and i will make a new build from zero.

What do you think, it's better to stay on windows 10 or at the moment Windows 11 is mature and can be adopted without problem?

Both systems are equally fine for either gaming or professional use.

I don't think hardware matters much about which system you choose (except TPM being requirement for Windows 11)
Which one you choose is more about dealing with annoyances and personal preferences.

I personally dislike Windows 11 UI, it has some bugs and the UI is somewhat less performant compared to Windows 10, at least from my XP,
but other than that there is no difference between the two in relation to hardware.

It depends on what you will do on your computer, I'd say for gaming it's fine, but not for professional use.
Windows 11 also consumes more memory than Windows 10.

Windows 11.

Windows 10 will be supported until October of 2025.

I use 11, but I tend to think of it as Windows 10.1. Some Windows 10 features (like taskbar placement) have been removed.

Haven't had a lot of issues with it. (Maybe I'm lucky.) With the exception of a security feature (that I don't understand) that requires a Gen8 Intel CPU or newer, all of the hardware security features of 11 were available in 10. The difference is that most of them are mandatory for 11. (Core Isolation isn't mandatory.)

11 is supposed to give superior support for the multicore performance of Intel Gen12 and Gen13 CPUs. I don't know whether the same would be true for AMD processors. If you're doing (say) an I7-13700K, I'd recommend 11.

I sort of mirror what @bobkn states in that if you're going for the latest gen AMD Ryzen 7000 or Intel 13th gen system you'll be better off with Windows 11. I've been using W11 from very early on and haven't any more or less issues than with W10.

bobkn's observation about driver support is a really good point that I agree with.

I admit that i tested windows 11 on an other system and i like the new graphic, it seem more modern.

The other side is that windows 10 is more stable and i think that the support until 2025 allow to obtain a more stable system.

I don't understand why MS launch it and at the same, support windows 10 to 2025, this can be a deterrent to the use of 11.

I haven't had any stability issues with 11. Others may have different experiences.

I didn't use Vista long. Weren't most of the issues with it due to driver support? (That doesn't apply to 11. It's usually happy with drivers for 10.)

As far as I know, MS has never ended support for an OS immediately when they released a new one. For example: support for 7 ended in January of 2020. Windows 10 was released in July of 2015. (Windows 8 and 8.1 were never very popular.)

Not even a remotely fair comparison, Vista was horrendous, Windows 11 wasn't and isn't. Is it my favourite os ever? Probably not, But is it top 3 absolutely.

10 will be absolutely fine though, I didn't have any issues with it, Just neither here nor there.

I agree with what @ShamrockRig said for comparison of the two.
Windows Vista is simply a "general failure" without a match.

Windows 11 is nowhere near being like Vista. I hated Vista so much that I switched to Linux until Windows 7 came along.

Go with 11, they will hopefully get those little bugs out eventually......

I'm not a programmer, well, not any more, anyway.
I did re-program the Commodore 64 but that was a lifetime ago.

However if I were going to write an OS today to handle all of today's BS, it would probably look a lot like Win-11.
Not so much in looks, because I never did understand that big Blue Thingy, which for me is "Gone in 60 seconds!",
but for it's malleability. It's like the modeling clay I played with as a child. You can mold it into what you want.

I'm running Windows 11/Pro/64 on a PC that is so old, if it were any older it would be running on Steam.
I burned the Window 11 ISO to a Flash Drive using the latest ver. of 'Rufus', and it took out all the nasties from the ISO I downloaded. No conditions, no TMP, no security questions, no insistence on a MS Account, and no BS!
And, it installed like a dream! Fastest install since DOS 6.22.

This old PC (bios date 2008) is just Humming' along, with 16 GB of ram, a 500GB SSD and an old motherboard from EBay.
It DOES NOT meet the requirements set forth by Microshaft, for the install if Windows 11.
On a similar PC, I've run every OS since ME, and Windows 11 is running the fastest and the smoothest.
I just could'nt ask for more. She boots up in about ten seconds, and shuts down in five. PERFECTOMUNDO!

Wimdows 11 is stable. Do not listen to the negativists. Windows 11 as Vista - rubbish. Re. support - there is always overlap.

One thing really nice about it: the product keys and digital licenses for Windows 10 and 11 are identical and interchangeable. So don't buy a more expensive license for Windows 11. Heck, even Windows 7 and 8/8.1 product keys still work for Windows 10/11.

My first PC was the original IBM PC in 1981.
I've been using Microsoft for more than 40 years.
I make my living with the two PC's listed below.
I require my systems to be totally reliable.
I use Windows 11 on both of them.

if I were building new, or re-installing the OS on my computer, I would use Windows 11. I have 11 on my work laptop, and I have 11 on my beelink mini PC at home. My desktop at home is still running Windows 10, but that's just because I build it 2.5 years ago and it hasn't given me any problems and is stable as a rock, so I just continue to use 10 on it. But I have no fears that a fresh install of 11 would cause me any issues.

Go with 11. I've had no issues with it, and I'm on the Beta build, which "should" be less stable than the release build.
