Solved Removing 'Bitmap image' from 'New' context menu...

But there's no good reason to Take Ownership of a System File like WindowsApps. That might cause, well, a lot of headaches.
Messing with the WindowsApps folder could cause a lot of issues with apps if a mistake was made. Really risky.

There are no risk, it is not magic. it is codes they do what you tell them to do. You are not going to mess with windowsapps folder or with any other app. UWP apps don't mess with each other. they are apps just like in your phone. that is why they were invented. u won't cause problems in any system files or any operation. but editing a appxmanifest file will probaby kill the app itself or cause app related problems in the future. nothing more. i showed the way to do it. do or not its up to the user.

for fresh install of windows, you can edit AppxManifest.xml file on desktop and place it inside install.wim by opening it via 7zip. no permissions will be asked

I tested honeyview and assosiated bmp with it. there was no bmp on the menu. so i'm guessing u still have paint folder under windowsapps.. go there take ownership of paint folders (check deleted folder too) and remove it.

I think it's a bad idea to take ownership of a folder under WindowsApps. You'd b etter not do it unless you have a good backup for your Windows installation.

You give me an idea for removing uninstalled Edge icon from start menu.
I will play with xml files for it.

I don't get it.
Why would someone need to create an empty bitmap file from the context menu anyway?
I clicked this entry and an empty bitmap file was created, which can't be opened in XnView?

Screenshot (125).pngScreenshot (126).png

Am I missing something or is this a useless menu entry?

Maybe this will help some of you...
The following worked for me to remove bitmap image:
1. Make IrfanView the default app for file type .bmp (Settings > Apps > …)
2. Uninstall Paint (Settings > Apps > …)
3. Restart File Explorer (possibly twice or even restart the computer)

I can only guess that any 3rd party program other than IrfanView should also work?
Not an ideal solution but will do until Brink comes up with the "official" solution.

Errr. Removing Paint when you have other image editors and viewers is a smart thing to do. It's certainly not sacrilegious. :lmao:

Because I can?

There is something wrong here. Nobody is forcing anybody to uninstall Paint. On the other hand, it almost seems like some of you are trying to stop others from voluntarily uninstalling Paint because they don't use it. How about let's all live and let live?

Yeah, but, on occasion, a user may come along and, for whatever reason, forcibly suggest to do something of the like..., then a noob may come along and actually do it and feck something up! So, you gotta be careful. ;-)
