Unusual mouse lag despite low CPU and RAM usage

OS
Windows 11
I have a laptop with following specs

CPU - Intel 12th Gen. i7-12650H
Storage - 1TB NVMe SSD
RAM - 64GB
Graphics - NVIDIA RTX 4060

Sometimes I see a lot of mouse lag even though the CPU usage and RAM usage is very low, the kind of common lag noticed often by the users when windows explorer crashes due to RAM overload. I uninstalled the mouse driver from device manager in order to troubleshoot this issue but to no avail.

Windows and all drivers are up-to-date.

What should I do? I have never faced this kind of lag when doing CPU and RAM intensive stuff like animations and video editing.

Here's a short recording I made when I was facing this lag.

Windows Build/Version
Windows 11 - Home Edition- 22H2, build 22621.2283

Did you install the newest version of graphics card driver from GPU manufacturer website?

No I didn't. It's already up to date.

I just checked. I updated them more than a week ago I suppose.

The problem has started coming in the last three days.

Hi!
Could you tell us which make and model of notebook you have pls.
In the meantime , have you tried another mouse?
What is the mat you have under the mouse?
Also, if this is the driver you have installed then, I would check again
because that is last month's driver. This is the latest from nVidia

My laptop is MSI cyborg 15

I only use studio drivers as they are more stable for CGI software and I don't play any games on my laptop.

The link you shared are for game ready drivers.

I am using a wireless mouse with a usb port. I don't use any mouse pad. Never used it in years. The desk surface is good. I tried a different mouse also and faced issues.

Just for testing purposes is there any way to try a wired mouse?

You should have given all appropriate info in your opening post.
What has happened in the last three days that was different from
the other days?
Did update any software for the mouse?
What is the make of the mouse?
Have you tried a different USB port?
Have you tried to update the GPU driver even though you have the Creative driver
installed? You can always roll back the driver if it's to your liking.
MSI has a very good Forum that you might consider if you cannot have your problem
resolved here.
Since you do have a gaming notebook, that is where your query should be posted on
the MSI forums.

Nothing has happened in the past three days which was different from the other days.

I tried to check update from the device manager for the mouse but there were no updates available. The mouse model is Logitech M221.

Yes I tried different USP port but the problems still remains. I have not updated the GPU driver to a game ready driver.

I will post my query on the MSI forum as well.

Well, that makes allot of sense. Had we known the mouse make, we could
have had a possible solution:

Battery

  • Battery: 18 months
  • Battery Details: 1 x AA (included)

Also, do you have the GHub from Logitech installed?

Replace the battery in your Wireless mouse.

The mouse is being used on a polished surface, desk surface or mouse mat makes no difference, when the surface is polished the optical sensor fails to know the mouse has moved.
So change to a new clean matt surface.

That is clear from your video.

You should always have a basic USB wired mouse available for use or testing. They all use a standard driver in Windows.

The reason I’m suggesting a wired mouse is so you can pinpoint if there is interference or not. You are guessing otherwise.

I experience similar behavior under a few instances:

1) A high-speed USB drive is causng interference on the bus
2) Low battery/bad surface
3) Front VS rear USB ports(USB extension in rear port with adapter end on desk may help)
4) Multiple wireless dongles plugged in next to eachother
5) Faulty hardware

Try unplugging all other usb devices or using the mouse right next to the dongle and see if it moves correctly

I've had an instance where Bluetooth has had an effect on the 2.4GHz band.

Thanks. I'll keep these points in mind. Sharing my observations with respect to each of your points.

1) I don't have any high speed USB drive attached when this lag happens.
2) Battery is brand new. In one or two instances, I recall, when the lag happened, I changed the surface to a paper or a notepad on my desk, but that didn't change the situation.
3) I don't understand, there is one normal USB port on either side of my laptop. One type C USB port is on the right side as well.
4) I have this type C wired USB extension having multiple ports.

Perhaps the lag is happening due to that. Whenever the lag happened, only my wired keyboard was plugged into that. I have been using the same keyboard since the beginning with this laptop. I've been using this USB extension for more than a month when there wasn't any kind of lags happening. The USB pin of my wireless mouse is always directly plugged into my laptop.

I haven't faced any lag in the last two days. I didn't change anything. in these two days.
5) What exactly is faulty? My USB port, or some internal part of laptop?
