Try Unpin (right-click) the (re)Pin to Start Menu

Do you know what the icons are (hover mouse over .. any popup label(s)?

Clean install or in-situ upgrade?

Right-click over "ghost" icons?

(I assume we're taking about those ethereal-like shapes in your above image, above and to the left of the Calculator icon?)

Try rebuilding icon cache Rebuild Icon Cache in Windows 11

If that doesn't work, try changing the screen resolution and then change it back. That trick worked for folks back in the early windows 10 days.

Some 3rd party apps have been known to cause the ghosting issue. Try a clean boot to see if the problem persists. Perform a Clean Boot in Windows 11 to Troubleshoot Software Conflicts

Lastly, have you made any changes in your desktop background or theme? That has also caused ghosting for some people.

A clean install is a big step
I know what you mean. It's a real pain when one has as much "stuff" as some of us do. I've never been one to clone a hard drive (I always restore from backup instead) but this last time I clean installed, I did my first clone. I put the drive far away from my backups. I don't want to have to go through it all again.

Yeah, there's a few ways to go about restoring/installing Windows, and it depends on mindset and what one wants to do.

For me, a clean install is always a last resort decision because of the work to restore the PC. Yeah, I could create an image, but unless I'm using it right away, they're useless to me. Also, one of those images could contain the issue you're trying to rid.

Anyway, I mainly rely on backups. Just do a clean install and restore data from my user profile - Documents, Photos, Music, stuff like that.

That's me.

We have the same reasoning on that. I've restored from a backup more times that I'd like to admit to. Some of those times it was needed to undo some stupid crap I did myself. Repair installs have their purpose, too, but the absolute only way to know you're clean is to start clean. Folks tend to blame windows for all their woes, but it's not always the OS's fault.
