Hello Windows Insiders, today we are releasing Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26200 to the Canary Channel.

(Note the .5001 after the build number does not mean anything relevant to Windows Insiders and we will continue to use the primary build number for these flight blog posts.)

With the Canary Channel moving to a higher build number, the window closes on being able to switch to the Dev Channel without doing a clean-install of Windows. If you haven’t switched channels yet, you can still do so BEFORE taking Build 26200.

Changes and Improvements​

[General]​

  • [REMINDER] As we’ve been mentioning previously that would happen, the build watermark at the lower right-hand corner of the desktop has returned.

[Widgets]​

  • We are also making some improvements to the Widgets button on the taskbar so that the icons on the taskbar are clearer and we are rolling out a larger set of animated icons too.
  • As part of the Widgets board improvements that we began rolling out with Build 26090 a few weeks ago (which are now also rolling out to Insiders in the Dev Channel), we are introducing the ability for developers to send notifications to the taskbar button with their custom dashboards for the Widgets board. Developers can check out this documentation on how to implement this capability with their Widgets dashboards. To manage notifications from multiple dashboards, Widgets is also providing more granular control over what content shows on the Widgets button on the taskbar. You can go to Widgets Settings > Notifications and enable or disable taskbar notifications from individual dashboards. NOTE: These changes are only initially available to Windows Insiders in the European Economic Area (EEA).

Fixes for known issues​

[Taskbar & System Tray]​

  • Fixed an issue that caused a dead zone you couldn’t click inside of next to the notification center.
  • Fixed an issue that was causing the page icons in quick settings to not work in secondary settings pages.
  • Fixed an issue where keyboard focus wasn’t shifting to the top item of the new page correctly after switching pages in quick settings.

[Input]​

  • Fixed a tabtip.exe crash, which could impact the ability to input text.

[Windowing]​

  • Fixed an issue which could cause RemoteApp windows to get cut off when using 200% scaling.

[Multiple Desktops]​

  • Fixed an issue where the option to set a different wallpaper on each desktop wasn’t working.

Known issues​

[General]​

  • [IMPORTANT NOTE] We are investigating reports that some Windows Insiders in the Canary and Dev Channels are stuck on Build 26040 or Build 23620. The investigation is ongoing, however if you are impacted by this and really want to get onto the latest build in the Canary or Dev Channel today – you can download the latest ISO here and do a clean install and opt your device back into flighting in the Canary or Dev Channels.

[Copilot in Windows*]​

  • [NEW] We are aware of reports by Insiders in the Canary, Dev, and Beta Channels that Copilot is auto-launching unexpectedly after restarting their PCs. We hope to have a fix for this issue soon and is unrelated to the auto-launching experience we tried out with Insiders in the Canary and Dev Channels in early February which we stopped rolling out in March.
  • Voice access does not work reliably with the updated Copilot in Windows experience that introduces the ability for Copilot to act like a normal application.
  • Using Windows Ink to write in Copilot will not work with the updated Copilot in Windows experience that introduces the ability for Copilot to act like a normal application window.

Reminders for Windows Insiders​

  • The builds we release to the Canary Channel should not be seen as matched to any specific release of Windows and features and experiences included in these builds may never get released as we try out different concepts and get feedback. Features may change over time, be removed, or replaced and never get released beyond Windows Insiders. Some of these features and experiences could show up in future Windows releases when they’re ready.
  • Many features in the Canary Channel are rolled out using Control Feature Rollout technology, starting with a subset of Insiders and ramping up over time as we monitor feedback to see how they land before pushing them out to everyone in this channel.
  • To get off the Canary Channel, a clean install of Windows 11 will be required. As a reminder – Insiders can’t switch to a channel that is receiving builds with lower build numbers without doing a clean installation of Windows 11 due to technical setup requirements.
  • The desktop watermark shown at the lower right corner of the desktop is normal for these pre-release builds.

  • Copilot in Windows* in preview is being rolled out gradually to Windows Insiders in select global markets. The initial markets for the Copilot in Windows preview include North America, United Kingdom and parts of Asia and South America. It is our intention to add additional markets over time.

Did anybody try a clean install with 26200.5001?
1) I could not bypass the MS account using the known methods.
No go with no@thankyou.com that used to work before. 😝
2) After I entered my MS account, it asked for password and to create a pin. After that it just hung with an empty screen. 🤷‍♂️

Had to disconnect the network and use oobe\bypassnro to get over the problem. I could then also use a local account and complete the installation.

Quite a few changes on a clean install, now they are really trying to force using a MS account.
All the methods with fake accounts don't work anymore.

Luckily oobe\bypassnro still works when not connected to the internet and with that I could still use a local account.
Not sure how long before MS closes that door too.
It is getting ridiculous. They are also pushing to buy MS 365 and more space on the cloud for a monthly fee. 😝😝🤬🤬

yes yes you right sorry but i sent feed Back to MS already i realize i cannot wait so i tried with regedit doing unload & load haiv and change parameter sam from 11 to10 but not success so i use rufus from iso file 26200.501 and success

I am trying to install Office 365 and UbuntuVM under VMware. Both install, but I don't give a damn. Windows seems to have decided to wipe out Garuda Linux once again. So its gone. I will install Garuda Linux over it, wiping the entire drive. Then I will install Ubuntu 2024 Any comments I may make aboout Windows will have to be about my VMware WS 17.5 VM which is stuck on the DEV channel. This behavior or Windows is completely unaccepltable.

I'm not sure why I'd bother with VMWare any more -- if you've got a Linux host there's no way with KVM/QEMU virtulisation that a Guest Windows system could wipe out the host system - even if only the bootloader.

I've used KVM/QEMU on a variety of different Linux Hosts and while (seldom) have there been problems - a Windows Guest has never come near to wrecking the host.

I'd have a go with a minimal OPENSUSE Tumbleweed distro -- it's a popular distro in Europe, away from Redhat / Canonical providers - very up to date -- almost as up to date as ArchLinux and seems way more efficient than a load of others -- the installer works properly too so you can use btrfs, lvm, discrete classical partitions or whatever.

Glad you were finally successful. I know from personal experience that sometimes it just takes us not giving up to easy.

Speaking of the refurbushed Optiplex, that workhorse is a straight - up replacement for my old desktop - it is also my most powerful desktop I have ever had at my beck - not just at home, but even at work. The GTX 1050Ti is a straight up version of the same card the old desktop had - because my games never changed.It isn't that my workload changed - it is about power getting cheaper.

I've used KVM/QEMU on a variety of different Linux Hosts and while (seldom) have there been problems - a Windows Guest has never come near to wrecking the host.

I'd have a go with a minimal OPENSUSE Tumbleweed distro -- it's a popular distro in Europe, away from Redhat / Canonical providers - very up to date -- almost as up to date as ArchLinux and seems way more efficient than a load of others -- the installer works properly too so you can use btrfs, lvm, discrete classical partitions or whatever.

VMware has two features that QEMU/KVM does not have. First, it has a Suspend power feature, which survives a reboot and second the ability to make a snapshot of a running VM. Otherwise I pretty much agree with you. We will see what happens with VMware WS 18

Boot menu not filling the screen when using Build 26100 and 26200 with Intel Grapics drivers. (Different versions of driver from 31.0.101.4953 all the way to 31.0.101.5445)
Note that when I use the NVIDIA RTX 3600 instead of the Intel UHD 750 on the same machines, this problem does not exist.

Snapshots of running VM's is absolutely possible with KVM/QEMU (as are snapshots of the whole host) works also if you use you use the btrfs file system too - I used to use XFS but BTRFS is much better these days and more resilient too.


I believe you can suspend a VM with KVM which survives a re-boot -- you need to resume the VM after re-boot (Of the HOST of course) -- just going to test that out --never needed the feature -- but snapshots have been available for years -- I can't imagine any large organisation running a virtualised infrastructure (many do these days) without a decent snapshotting feature.

Pausing a VM doesn't survive a re-boot of the host though.

Note for suspend / resume features on Linux Hosts (or VM's) you need to ensure you have enough swap space available to hold the image. IMO I'd take a snapshot in ptrference to suspending the VM.

Well at least yours is still blue and centred, mine is pink and over to the left (Intel UHD graphics 605, tried several drivers).

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update.

I think this is a completely different issue.
I had your problem in the past, with a different Dev Build. I solved that one by updating again from a good backup and never got it again. 🤷‍♂️

Did anybody try Safe Mode with Build 26200.5001?
I get this same problem on 3 machines with this build when I try booting in safe mode.
