Yeah i’m not sure what would possess someone to buy a touch monitor unless it was in front of them like a drawing tablet.

My laptop was a gift, so I didn't care if it was touch screen or not, although I don't use the touch screen, heck I even use a mouse with mine. Now I do use the touch screen with my phone and iPad. :D

I want one of these but one that is only visible to me. So all other people can see is some crazy old person waving their arms around frantically like there is an invisible bus coming.

I have a hybrid laptop/tablet Fujitsu Stylistic Q702 which is essentially a 11.3" Windows tablet with a docking station. The only time I use the touch screen is when I remove it from the docking station and use it as a tablet. That's rather rare because it's too heavy to hold for too long. So I also wouldn't pay extra for a touchscreen on a laptop, but if it is included anyway is welcome.

I've been thinking about getting a used surface or some other 2 in 1 pc from ebay. Its main purpose is for use in school and to study. I'm not really interested in iPads. Is there Anything that you noticed, or think one should be cautious about when seeking out a hybrid?

Just make sure it has the features you want (CPU, RAM, SSD, battery) as with any other computer you buy. You shouldn't worry about Windows, as long as it is a standard desktop version and not a ridiculously limited one such as Windows RT (8 for ARM) or Windows 10/11 for ARM. If it comes with Windows 8 or 10, just format and install Windows 11. Make sure you download all the drivers from manufacturer in advance. Even if Windows Update finds all the drivers automatically, you will see a huge difference in performance if you manually install all drivers from manufacturer. For tablets that lose touch or rotation functionality after driver updates, simply install the chipset (platform) drivers from manufacturer to restore them, no other driver works.

Hmm TraderJoeGary -- no buying. If it's such a low priority, why introduce the settings app at all? I've worked in software too and if it takes over 9 years to introduce a complete Settings app, Microsoft is inept.

I notice more and more functions are introduced in Settings with every upgrade, but still not everything that can be done in Control Panel can also be done in Settings. It has still a long way to go until it completely replaces the "traditional" Control Panel. I don't believe Microsoft is so stupid to completely disable Control Panel. Most probably they will just hide it, but good fellows like Winaero and others will find a workaround to enable it and use it again. Remember the first versions of Windows 11? There was no right-click menu for taskbar. All of us used to right-click and load Task Manager did not like that. Eventually Microsoft was forced to restore at least the Task Manager option and the full right-click menu can be enabled with tools such as Explorer Patcher. So I don't give up hope. Let the rumors say, I don't believe everything they say.

All I can say is that I've never given it much thought, nor has it bothered me. Quite frankly I'm hard pressed to remember the last time I actually used Control Panel.

There is also the issue of Control Panel applets that aren't bog-standard Windows: third-party applets and Microsoft's own.

Oracle (Java) had one, along with Adobe Flash (rememeber Flash? good riddance), QuickTime, Intel, NVIDIA, RealTek. Even Microsoft's own Configuration Manager product (SCCM/MEMCM/MECM/whatever) has a Control Panel applet for which there is no Settings equivalent.

It takes a long time to get a huge entity like Microsoft to move. Even longer for third parties to move at their behest.

Just make sure it has the features you want (CPU, RAM, SSD, battery) as with any other computer you buy. You shouldn't worry about Windows, as long as it is a standard desktop version and not a ridiculously limited one such as Windows RT (8 for ARM) or Windows 10/11 for ARM. I'm new to W11 which came preinstalled in mny new laptop and I do not like it as well as W10. I've eliminated most of the annoyances so It is working OK now. But I would love to hear which 3rd party utilities you find most useful.

The smaller is 7" but is more limited in performance. Then is 8", 9.5" and 10.1" The larger screen the easier to see and higher resolution but it gets heavier. See the weight of the device before buying. If there is an open box and you can take it in your hands, even better. Generally the larger the more powerful but there are exceptions.
