I have Asus K31ADE pc...well over 10 years old and updated to Windows 11 Pro using workaround for unsupported hardware.
Everything was ok until the September KB5030310 update.

When i turn on pc i see Windows did not load correctly and use system restore to get pc working again.
Pc works ok while i am using it but when i have to restart pc say for program update it works ok.
A day or two later i get the same message and use System Restore again.
My pc has SSD drive.
Ran SFC Scannow, and hardrive checks and everything ok...or is my SSD dying as i only fitted this just over a year ago.
I have backupped my personal videos ,images and documents to external drive.

Is there any other checks i should do before i buy another pc ? Or don't bother messing about just get another Pc.

Also,i noticed Co-Pilot was not installed which i am not really concerned with.

Thank you.

That update is a preview cumulative. If you know the update is causing the problem, do a system restore to get it running again. Then go into Windows Update. advanced options, and toggle off "Get the latest updates as soon as they are available" That will keep the update from installing again right now.

You can also attempt a repair install (using the same work around for incompatible hardware that you did previously)

Let me throw this out to you as well.. That update will become a regular monthly cumulative and be automatically installed on update Tuesday Oct. 10 so it may well (and probably will) happen again. You may have to use group policy and turn off Windows update completely. As happened for a lot of people back in the Windows 10 days, some machines would not update past a certain point. Because of its hardware, that 10 year old machine may not be able to update further than your current version.

Thanks for reply Glasskuter,

I uninstalled the September Update and toggled off 'Get the latest updates...' as suggested and restarted pc several times and did not see
'windows did not load correctly...' message did not appear again.
It appears the September Update was causing the issue.

Thank you.

Have a nice evening.

Good advice from glasskuter. I don't do Previews on my old pc because I try to keep it away from the bleeding edge as much as possible. Right now, I'm thinking that I will put the updates on pause for about 4 or 5 weeks. That should be enough time to see how the new CU is behaving on older pc's from comments we will see on the forum, etc. If things are not going well then I will most likely also go the group policy route to stop updates.
