Solved Can pin apps to taskbar but not website shortcuts? (Edge)

The option is there when I go to the 3 dots>more tools but the shortcut doesn't show up on the taskbar. It does show up in the start menu if I choose that option. Ideas?

You cannot pin an internet shortcut to taskbar. You can however similate the old QuickLaunch on the taskbar and put anything you want into it; files, folders, shortcuts. It's my go-to solution that gives me not only taskbar access to internet shortcuts, but keeps my taskbar from overflowing with other shortcuts.)

You might see if it will work for you. Here's how.

1. Browse to C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\
(NOTE: you have to have "show hidden files" enabled in folder options to see this folder.)
Within this folder create a sub-folder and name it Quick Launch or whatever you want.

2. Make a shortcut to this new QuickLaunch folder on your desktop but add
C:\windows\explorer.exe in front of the location path like this:
C:\Windows\explorer.exe C:\Users\glass\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch.

3. Assign this shortcut an icon. (Right click on desktop shortcut-properties-change icon-select an icon-apply-OK) Now put anything you want into this folder.

4. Pin the shortcut to taskbar

I rarely go to my desktop as everything is organized in a manner that I can quickly access it from my "fake quicklaunch" icon on the taskbar.

You actually can pin web site shortcuts to the taskbar. Click the hamburger dots, click "More Tools", and click "Pin to taskbar" ....

Here the reason "Pin to taskbar" isn't highlighted is because the page is already pinned as shown in the red circle. The thing though is whatever page you pin will be the page that opens.

It was one of those "discoveries" I found about 2 years ago when poking around the settings to see what's there.

Sometimes I get bored and just poke around settings to see what they do. But yeah, you can pin pages to the taskbar.

I assume Brink has a tutorial, but I don't know. Haven't looked.

You can always just install them as an app so they’ll open on their own window and that can be pinned anywhere too.

If you want to create a shortcut to open to a non default browser, create it, create a batch to launch it and create a shortcut to that batch that can be pinned.

Yeah, you can create a shortcut, then pin, but that isn't necessary when you can simply do it per post #3. And it's just as quick.

But, yes, that assumes you're using Edge, and I can't speak on other browsers, so....

Thanks to all who responded. I ended up with menu>apps>install this site as an app. Then I was easily able to pin it to the taskbar.

So when you've pinned a website shortcut to the taskbar using the Edge>More Tools option, how can you then change it's icon? When I right click there is no Properties only the option to unpin.

I don't think you can change icons; the pinned page will have the icon of the site.
