Can't start Background Intelligent Transfer Service

I'm having trouble getting Windows Update to run. Having trouble getting the store to run, also. And I may have identified the reason: Background Intelligent Transfer Service won't start.

I have a specific error code: 2147024713. But all the Google results for this error code are ancient.

I tried using MSConfig to start the computer with only Microsoft services enabled, but it didn't help. And I just ran the Windows Update troubleshooter. So far, I still can't start BITS. I'll restart and let you know, but I don't think I've got it fixed yet.

I'm at a loss for what to do.

Open a command prompt as Admin and run these commands, one at a time....

sfc /scannow

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth







If after running those, you still can't get BITS started, then....

An In-Place Upgrade "compares" what is installed on the computer, with the Windows ISO image.
Then, it overwrites any corrupted Windows files, with clean copies from the ISO image.
This is how it "repairs" Windows while allowing you to keep your programs and personal files.

Here is the short version of the In-place upgrade tutorial...

DISABLE non-Microsoft:
a) antivirus software
b) firewall software
c) drive encryption software


Make a full OS backup with a program like Macrium Reflect or AOMEI Backupper Standard
Making a backup is optional, but always a smart move.

Get the Windows 11 ISO (Option #2), and save it to your desktop...


Right click the ISO image and choose: MOUNT
Open File Explorer and you will see a new drive letter. It will "look" like a DVD optical drive.
Double click the new drive letter to open it.
Find setup.exe and double click it to start the in-place upgrade.

Choose the Keep personal files and apps option.

After it's all done... to UNmount the ISO image, right click the new drive letter and choose: EJECT.

The ONLY thing you will lose is some of your personalizations.
Your drivers, programs and data will be intact.

I'd been looking at potentially running the Windows 11 Installation Assistant and having it fix things. Maybe that's what I'm gonna do now. I've got it downloading.

I would just do the In-Place upgrade. It only takes about 45 minutes on my comp.
It's a "repair install" that keeps your programs, drivers, and data.

Make sure any dependencies are running



services.msc> Background Intelligent Transfer Service> Right click Properties> Dependencies tab

A Guy
