Change settings to avoid crashes because of full RAM?

Often programs crashes, are shut down, are faded out, do not response. And strange behavours of Windows 11 occur. The Task Manager then shows over 93 % of RAM use.

I have a Lenovo IdeaPad 3 17ABA7 Laptop - Type 82RQ (Lenovo IdeaPad 3 with 16, respectively 16 GB RAM.

Before I had an Acer Aspire E 15 with 8 GB RAM. I had fewer or no problems of such kind with it, even though it had less RAM. Are there any settings I should change to fix the problems with the Lenovo?

This is a job for @zbook

Having "more" RAM is not the problem. Something else is causing the crashes. Zbook is great at solving problems like these.
Just do whatever he asks. :-)

Not a RAM problem.
Looks like some driver conflict. Try updating to latest once.

Four possible problems

1) possible defect in something you are running which isn't releasing RAM - seems the most likely

2) Windows defect itself - leaking or not releasing RAM - this used to be a problem on some machines a while ago but I think that's largely been fixed

3) paging device(s) to small, or corrupted -- possible but usually quite a rare error

4) trying to run too many concurrent applications.


I suggest nr 1 is the probable cause.

My approach to attack this would be to create a clone of your system as a VM -- and start with the minimal things it will boot with -- and just see at what point the RAM problem becomes noticeable. The problem though with that is if there are some physical drivers causing the problem then the defect won't show up in a VM.

Another way -- boot up Windows in Safe mode just loading drivers one at a time or whatever.

Okey, so 1) would be a program that is not coded very well obviously, I assume. How could I recognize that program? When I start a program and then the issue occrred it meant this progam causes it? Or might it be one that is still running but not releasing RAM? At least I could start suspicious programs which were running when the issure occurred.

I do not have any idea of VMs (or anything else).

Another way -- boot up Windows in Safe mode just loading drivers one at a time or whatever.
This might last quite a while I could imagine, the issue does not occur daily.

You can also troubleshoot with a clean boot.
