Default attributes for files in C:\Windows\System32\etc\drivers

Greetings:

I accidentally set read only on all the files in the C:\Windows\System32\etc\drivers folder instead of just the hosts file, can someone let me know which of these have the read only flag on them by default?

1) hosts
2) hosts.ics
3) lmhosts.sam
4) networks
5) protocols
6) services

I have no attributes on mine. (except for the mandatory Archive attrib)
I do manipulate the hosts file quite a bit (in order to avoid ads in MS games).
Some games do not start without some API calls so the file needs to be copied back and forth.
So I have the extra hostsGlobal & hostsCity, disregard those.
Very if any changes are usually made to those files. Read-Only attribute set would not be an issue.

Either way it's fine.
Read-only attrib is an extra protection, System and hidden are also.

I just checked on a newly installed Beta and as stated above, no attribs set.
Your thread title is misleading, permissions and attributes are totally different beasts.

Not really mispelled, my t and 7 keys are very sensitive and won't register unless I press it slowly. LOL

LOL, I forgot it was called attributes and not permissions when I originally posted. How did you get Windows to create the hosts.ics file? I'm going to update my unused virtual developers insiders which was last used probably 1+ years ago to Canary.

Well ICS stands for internet Connection sharing.
I would have to search and find out when and what creates it.
I don't have an answer at this point. All I have is this:

I have a VM that uses NAT -network address translation- and that is where the file comes from.

You don't "get Windows to create" it. It's automatically generated when you set up (or join) your local network from the machine you're looking at. If that machine gets demoted to second machine status and the new computer has access to the established home network activated, the new machine gets the .ics file and the older one keeps it.

I know what ICS is, basically Microsoft's name for NAT or fake IP routing using private reserved IP space.

Interesting because isn't ICS originally for sharing your internet connection as a host so it shouldn't even be involved when other machines are only networked and not using that machine as the internet gateway.

On the Virtual Machine which runs the latest Canary build that was installed using repair install for the build right before the latest build, I still have not been able to get the hosts.ics files to show up as this is what I have at the time of this writing and I never touched or changed the files and their attributes/permissions, etc.
