Easy way to use Local account at install time in standard way

Hi folks
This method still works if you use standard install methods -- i.e setup.exe or dism /ApplyImage.
You don't need to run things to bypass OOBE things or create weird install options from Rufus etc.

At create / login to Microsoft Account -- just enter an email address of nobody@nobody.com.
For password anything you like -- e.g. WhataLoadofBollocks and then press enter
you'll see 'OOP'S something went wrong. Hit the next button and you can now enter a local user name etc.

Was still working Yesterday (Aug 1) on a fresh W11 install of latest Canary build for W11 pro.

Yep, see at step 21 below.

I just setup a new PC and was surprised to see that the option to choose I don't have internet was there and it worked.

Hi there

If I have to watch Youtube to do something that can't can't be expressed in a line or two of text -- well then "Problem solved" -- in any case I usually hate Youtube solutions to problems - a manual / paper copy where I can write notes and go back to convenient points is still my preferred method. Many Youtube demos have hideous music and the sound quality of the speaker(s) leave much to be desired.

I have seen the <name>@<samename>.com method but never used it. I am little curious as to why this bizarre loophole exists.

I assume, if the fake account actually exists it just fails on the password.

I still use the oobe/bypassnro method.

Whatttt...........No Wayyyyyyyyy (if your aren't familiar with the What, No Wayy guy this might not make a lot of sense, but just look him up on Google).

I think entering nobody@nobody.com with a string of random characters for the password is easier and faster than doing what is in this video. Essentially the video says, start the setup, get to the point where you would see if you can can select "I have no internet" then do the following.

shift-F10
taskill /F /IM oobenetworkconnectionflow.exe
oobe\bypassnro
setup restarts (this takes time of course and you have to reenter all your previous answers)


^ How is that easier? I agree it's another option, and it's not difficult, but it's more involved that putting in a fake email and fake password and hitting enter.

I agree with you and part of why I hate these YouTube solutions is the hideous music they put . I never put such crap in my videos, they are to the point.

But in a nutshell:

From the Windows initial setup wizard, press SHIFT + F10 to pull up the Command Prompt window then type:

taskkill /F /IM oobenetworkconnectionflow.exe

OOBE\BYPASSNRO

Or when they don't speak during the video and just move the mouse around or type messages in a notepad window rather than speaking. Yeah, Nope. Next.

I just finished installing Windows 11 Pro on the replacement drive on my old Mini PC that had the bad drive. I used the Media Creation tool to make the ISO. With this install I didn't get a choice so I tried your method. Worked like a charm.

maybe I'm doing something stupid but either I'm doing it at the wrong point or the thing just restarts and still requires an ms account sign in during the setup process - so currently I'm sticking to the bogus email method.

I'm not adverse to try other things but I can't make this one work.

I'm at the stage in my life that I prefer the easy way. It doesn't get much easier than nobody@nobody.com - nopassword.

When I setup Windows 11 on a clients computer, I typically setup the machine with a local account using oobe\bypassnro from the command-line and then convert the account to a MS is the client wants to (for Windows 10 and 11). That way they get a nicely named user folder.

The last setup I did for a client was a couple of weeks ago (on the 20th of July to be exact!) and I used, oobe\bypassnro on its own - why taskkill /F /IM oobenetworkconnectionflow.exe - has something changed in the last couple of weeks?

Hi there
at what point do you actually issue the command - if you do it at the wrong time either it's ignored or the system restarts the whole wretched setup again all from the beginning and still prompts for an Ms account which can't be skipped.

So "Round 'n Round" we go like some of those endless huge traffic circles ("roundabouts") in Europe and UK where you can never get off them or like trying to get out of an IKEA store.

Hi Jimbo,

I do it as soon as the setup starts, at the country/region screen - I can't say I've ever had a problem.

I should just say, that when I first encountered Windows 11, before much was known/published, I used to turn off the Wi-Fi (nearly autocorrected Wi-Fi to wife there!), or unplugged the ethernet mid setup - I remember it taking a few attempts to get the timing right.

once the initial setup restart, make sure you are not connected to the internet via LAN and when it asks you to connect to a wireless network simply choose I don't have internet from the left side

I don't have Internet is not available by default for the Home edition unless you use either command in step 16 below first.

Personally, I find it easier to just use the fake email method in step 21 below instead. It doesn't matter if you have an Internet connection this way.
