Hi folks
I find I can't play video from websites in latest firefox. Works perfectly in Firefox-ESR (v 102 -- long term release).
All versions of Edge work perfectly as does chrome.

Afraid I might have to ditch firefox eventually if this doesn't work.

ESR version -- OK

Standard release (after update)

@jimbo45
Under Linux see the 'new' changes:

More in particular:
  • Hardware video decoding is now enabled for Intel GPUs on Linux.
  • Users without platform support for H264 video decoding can now fallback to Cisco's OpenH264 plugin for playback.

I suspect the second one, I have encountered similar issues a while back, then it got fixed by a system update. I was under Fedora 36 when Firefox did had video support and Chromium didn't; different story on Chromium though, Firefox can use platform tools like ffmpeg libraries or it falls back to Cisco's OpenH264. I honestly didn't tried this fallback to see it really works.

Extended Support but still I don't get it LoL
From what I can tell after using it for a while, you get less frequent updates, way less.
And one major version will remain longer active.

For instance, version 112 was the 'latest' ESR for like a couple of months in a row.
While the normal release got to 115 + all in between smaller updates.

I find I can't play video from websites in latest firefox.
See if this makes a difference. Turn off hardware acceleration. In FF settings> general> performance >uncheck use recommended settings >untick use hardware acceleration. OR if you find hardware acceleration to be off already, try turning it on.

I just thought about this. Even if the regular versions of Firefox, Under Settings, General, there is a section about DRM content. It must be checked for me to play videos, especially YouTube videos. Maybe see if that is checked.

I still don't understand exactly what is the purpose of ESR version.
In Firefox I have quite a lot of changes in the user interface (UI), to make it suit to my wishes.
That I do by using a quite large userChrome.css, that I developed myself (of course helped by publications on the Internet)..
The changes of the UI are often interrupted by changes Mozilla makes to new versions of Firefox.

Therefore already for many years I use the ESR versions, where I can look once a year what has been changed in te UI, without beeing surprised by sudden changes. The security updates come on a regular base, so I have nothing to worry about.

The new ESR version comes about 1. of August, so in a while I have to look at that once again!
