Good point. It's not bad - it has 2gb ram and had the later atom N570. Still an atom but it wasn't too bad. How would Netflix look with a stretched screen though? :rolleyes:

Netflix adapts the image to preserve the movie aspect ratio. That means for good old 4:3 resolutions (800x600, 1024x768 etc) you will see black bars top and bottom of the screen, like you would see on an old square TV set. For wide resolutions such as 1366x768, 1280x720, 1280x800 etc you will see no black bars or thin black bars depending on movie aspect ratio. If you watch old 4:3 TV series, such as Star Trek in a wide resolution you will see black bars left and right, like on a modern TV set. If you always want to fill the screen, match the aspect ratio. For example I set my TV to 1400x1050 for 4:3 series or old movies and 1920x1080 for everything else.

As spotted by erpster4 MS have raised the system requirements for 24H2. Now SSE4.2 is required, else the PC wont even boot. AMD's SSE4a is no longer sufficient, even though it includes PopCnt.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

:lmao: with a 12th gen i5 you're well above minimum specs. Even my System Two with its 1st gen i5 has SSE4.2 and can run 24H2. With the revised requirements my lowest spec machine that can run 24H2 is now a laptop with a Pentium B950 from 2011.

After the official 24H2 release is out in October or November I will try replacing certain system files with the respective ones from 23H2. If I am successful upgrading my test laptop (see 1st system specs) to 24H2 I will report here. There is a chance that they are trying to scare us to upgrade our systems. Remember Windows Vista? All early adopters were rushing to buy a new graphics card with WDDM drivers or even a new computer. Later it was revealed that neither was necessary. Vista 32-bit could run on their old computer with Windows XP drivers for their old graphics card (XPDM mode). Don't do the same mistake. Wait for the official 24H2 release. By then there might be a workaround, like replacing certain files, to install 24H2 on old systems.

Knowing Microsoft, I wouldn't be surprised if that works. At least till they just release a ARM only version.

Why wait, why not take the current Canary 24H2 build and swap out some of the system files from 23H2? The suspense is killing me!

the Dev build 26100.1 would be the one to use, not the Canary build. Canary has now jumped ahead and has a watermark and expiry date again. It is described in the watermark as build 26200.ge_prerelease.240412-1717, the 'prerelease' indicating it is an experimental build. The dev build 26100.1 however is described as ge_release, indicating it is a build on the way to becoming the release build.

I would download the ISO and try these in a virtual machine, but I don't have too much free time. So I reserve my experiments for the standard release version.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

I would not be surprised if this can be bypassed too, it was mentioned that certain models were hard-coded. What would happen if the files were modified to leave that out?

Exactly my thoughts. When 24H2 is released in October or November 2024, I will try replacing some system files with those from 23H2 and see if the PopCnt instruction requirement can be bypassed.

I mean I tried with the one on the DUMP Site but it's not official? but it would boot or it complaints about no drivers prompt to search/browse idk what I did there hehe

I already have Win-11, Pro, 64, 24H2, even V2, and it works GREAT!

For those PC's that don't have the SSE4.2 Instruction Set in the CPU, Windows 11, 23H2 will work just fine. There's hardly any difference.
Fore those really OLD PC's, like the 32 bit versions, there is always Windows 10/Pro/32. I've installed that myself, on my old 32 bit PC's, and it runs almost exactly like Win-11. It's all in how you set it up! No harm, No foul!!

I've not upgraded this PC (SSD) to 24H2 yet, and I'm still running 22H2 on this one. It runs so sweet, and I've got so many programs installed on it, that I really hate to mess with it. And, I won't.
However, in full Disclosure, I have 24H2, V2 on a second SSD on this PC, and I'm slowly installing software on it, so it can become my daily OS, if and when required. (It's much Faster!)

All I have to do, is swap two SATA data cables, to make 24H2 my default boot drive.
I boot to it now, by using the F12 boot menu.

There is always hope, for those who believe.

My humble HP Stream 7 tablet (Intel Atom Z series CPU, 1GB RAM, 32GB disk) happily runs Windows 10 32-bit v22H2. Yes it is slow, but with a little patience still usable. My test laptop (1st system specs) without SSE4.2 runs Windows 11 23H2 with all updates. My main PC (2nd system specs), runs Windows 11 23H2 with all updates and will be hopefully upgraded to 24H2 in October or November.

Test your patience: In work I use an old dual core system with 512MB RAM and mechanical HDD running Windows XP! After that everything seems super fast 😁
