Macrium Reflect vs. EaseUS Todo Backup Home

Inspired by the poll on backup software. I'm posting a thread to gather deep info about the most frequently recommended two tools.

EaseUS Todo Backup Home vs. Macrium Reflect
Which one do you think is the best backup tool? And why?

Feel free to leave your experience and thoughts on them.
Any info would be appreciated!

Well I have just tested Easeus Backup, and the UI has changed dramatically and is geared to click and go, and is fine for new users. Adding drivers was easy.

But trying to use the advanced features like incrementals seems to be really non intuitive.

Overall rather slower (5 mins for a backup rather than 3 for Reflect).

It has one potentially useful feature - smart backup which is, as far as I can tell, auto backups changes every 30 minutes.

I think it gives AOMEI Backupper (for those who like simplified interfaces) a good run for the money as a basic use tool (especially as free for 1st 100).

I have always found TODO to be very reliable in the past, and have no reason to suspect that has changed. It restored fine albeit slower than Reflect.

It has the same weakness that is in AOMEI i.e, you can only recover one partition at a time.

I intend to use it as a secondary backup tool - although Reflect has never let me down, it does not hurt to have a different backup just in case..............

In my opinion, I (personally) would never buy a TODO Home licence but it does have a couple of features not in free version of Reflect, making it worthwhile grabbing of the free 100 licences.

If you have licences for Macrium Reflect Home, that you are, almost certainly, a fairly advanced user of Reflect, and there is no incentive to use TODO Home other than as insurance.

In terms of features, it really compares more with AOMEI than Reflect. So if you want a basic "click and go" tool, it is fine but if you want advanced features like Rapid Delta Restore (truly awesome feature of Reflect), then no contest.

Macrium Image Backup: How long does it take to create one?

On the same machine, a clone could take longer right? Usually it will as writing uncompressed files normally takes a bit longer than compressing and writing image but it is not a 100% certainty.

On my lap, definitely other way round (i7, 16GB, 2x1TB NVME). So it must depend on other factors perhaps e.g. compression levels - come to think of it, I have not seen any compression level settings in TODO.

I don't play around with compression settings. Maybe that is where the difference is.

I tried EaseUs and couldn't really get on with it, I prefer Macrium for Images and Aomei for file and folder backups. There was absolutely nothing wrong with EaseUs Todo seemed to work well

I just wish they have like a universal file extension/format for backup images so we can use any software to restore whichever we are more comfortable. EaseUS' UI looks very nice and the backup process is more straightforward (first impression).

Ok, I think this EaseUS starts to suck a little bit. I tried creating an emergency disk. I was able to complete the task after 4 failed attempt on the same USB drive. And when I boot up on the flashdrive, nothing but BSOD.
Am I missing something?

Yup... I hope Macrium will be kind enough to reach out with free licenses... haha...

Easeus is great for backing up files and folders, you can browse backups with Windows explorer and restore them quickly. However, it should be noted that ESET reports that an EaseUS driver is being used by currently circulating malware.

After cleaning EaseUS it seems to work the same, at least for me.

It took me a few goes to create the rescue disk after 3 failures I got it done but decided it is too unreliable for me

Of course you should have shared it. It's only a matter of time before it's worldwide. Hackers are not discriminatory!

I was messing around with the winre partition and forgot my own golden rule to make an incremental backup first (Dohhhh) and screwed it up.

So, I decided to restore a Reflect image from 3 days ago, and as it started I though "Oh Crap - I have not backed up the Easeus Todo installation", and I thought I would have to contact Easeus to reinstate licence.

Then I had a brainwave - I had made an Easeus backup yesterday, and created a bootable usb drive.

The restore seemed to go fine but when I started pc, it jumped straight to Macrium Reflect which puzzled me for a few moments, then I realised what had happened,

I always have Reflect as a boot entry along with Windows 11. So sure, it restored the bcd only but set Macrium Reflect as boot entry with no time delay. Problem is I could not get to Windows to set Windows as default boot option.

So, I then used Reflect's "fix boot" option" and that sorted it.

To me, Easeus should restore bcd as it was at time of doing image. This is an issue.

Glad you sorted it @cereberus I was unimpressed with Easeus and uninstalled it, so back to my usual backup and restore option that has never let me down yet, fingers crossed.

I never really like the idea of having multiple boot entry on one PC. I feel like it's gonna go south anytime. So instead of adding a Macrium partition on my OS drive, I just created a small partition on my external back-up drive and copied my Macrium rescue drive there. I just call up the boot menu if I need to boot up from rescue partition. It is definitely faster than USB flashdrive. The backup images are on the same 2TB external drive as the rescue partition.
I just transfer the external drive to my other PC if I need to restore or create an image.
