Problem with recent Windows 11 updates

Win ver Win22H2 (OS Build 22621.2134)

Hi. I'm unable to install any Windows 11 updates recently. This wasn't an issue before.

I tried manually updating but no luck. This what happens when I try to update...



When I manually try installing KB5034123 or kb5034204...

Wow looks like I am not the only one with issues.

Here's how to fix all Windows update problems with Reset Windows Update Tool.

Here's the things I try. One of them always works for me. I usually go ahead and do steps 1-5 before trying WU again.

1. Verify there are no corrupt system files going into the update.
Open a command prompt as administrator and type sfc /scannow
Pay attention to the scan results to see if SFC found anything it could not repair. If it found corruption it could not fix followup with this command (note the spaces)
dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
Restart computer
(Note-you can follow up with another sfc /scannow command to make sure that dism repaired the files)

2.run troubleshooter-settings-system-troubleshoot-other troubleshooters-windows update-RUN.

3. Reset WU Reset Windows Update in Windows 11 Tutorial

4. CLEAN UP COMPONENT STORE – dism /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup

5. Disable all third party AV completely, including Malwarebytes. Make sure no instance is runniing in task manager.
Try the update again.

6. If it still fails, do a repair install of windows Repair Install Windows 11 with an In-place Upgrade Tutorial

I think the more prevalent question should be :
Why did 23H2 failed to install?

Have you tried resetting the update components?
Open cmd prompt/powershell with admin & enter:
Net Stop bits
Net Stop wuauserv
Net Stop appidsvc
Net Stop cryptsvc
Ren %Systemroot%\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore DataStore.bak
Ren %Systemroot%\SoftwareDistribution\Download Download.bak
Ren %Systemroot%\System32\catroot2 catroot2.bak
Del "%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\Network\Downloader\qmgr*.dat"
Net Start bits
Net Start wuauserv
Net Start appidsvc
Net Start cryptsvc
Restart the PC & try updating again.

And/or:
Search for services.msc & find Windows Update & ensure it is set to Automatic.

I tried all this & it starts to download & then after 1% it fails. The Windows Setup Log in Even Viewer shows lines like this:

This is the last process to perform if nothing works that is.

Since I've had 11, I've never had to do an repair install to fix windows update on my own computer. Only for others. WU can fail for a lot of reasons, third party AV, corruption of WU components, or other corruption in the OS files, drive errors, having extra external hardware like extra docks or external drives connected, even drivers and incompatible software

But corruption within the OS is the most common reason updates fail. A repair install usually fixes that.

Then as others have mentioned you should run an in-place repair.

I would certainly do so if it is a third party AV.

Now what? Laptop came installed with Windows 11.

Have you restarted the installation?
Are you connected to the internet?

Was the pc bought new or second-hand/pre-owned? Perhaps the seller (if pre-owned) upgraded it.

Tried it 3 times and yes connected to internet. The laptop is new.

Is it possible due to lack of partition via Disk Management?

Usually disk 0 is Windows & yes there’s partitions missing for Disk 1 - there should be a least 3 but usually there’s 4 incl Windows - EFI, System reserved, Windows & Recovery.

Is there anything I can do or am I just screwed?
