Hi @TraderGary

I'm trying to get data from YAHOO finance into an EXCEL spread sheet -- Data from UK Futures market -- although ANY market is OK as I want the principle -- UK market is open at time when I'm usually up/

Is it possible and interactively look at to see if it's updating etc when I open the spreadsheet.

Hi again @TraderGary

got the stuff into EXCEL via "Get data from Web" but any way of making it update regularly -- then I can set an alert and I can get a text message if the position improves / deteriorates so I can either invest more or close the trade without being stuck at a terminal.

@jimbo45 My broker is Interactive Brokers. I don't use yahoo finance for anything. I used to use Excel extensively, but the charting I'm interested in is now done quite thoroughly and interactively by Interactive Brokers. I trade using Interactive Brokers Trader Workstation. I've also kept a subscription to finviz.com for years and find it quite valuable. The subscription has real-time data and is ad free.

Hi there

Thanks for answering -- I'm not a pro but do the odd bit so something with reasonable EOD (Open, Close, High, Low, Volume) is mostly what Id want to mess around with.

I looked at the finviz one but it doesn't do FTSE (UK) at least not unless you subscribe to the elite platform. This one looks OK for 9 USD a month for a decent number of API calls per month - never heard of it though -- any comments :

Not sure who owns the site or whatever but 9 USD a month is hardly breaking the bank !!!!

But thanks again for answering !!!!

Cheers

any way of making it update regularly

Automatically refresh data at regular intervals

  1. Select a cell in the external data range.
  2. Select Data > Queries & Connections > Connections tab, right click a query in the list, and then select Properties.
  3. Click the Usage tab.
  4. Select the Refresh every check box, and then enter the number of minutes between each refresh operation.

Hi there
Thanks

I'm also building my own historical data base {End of Day data -- OPEN, HIGH, LOW, CLOSE and Volume) -- the difficult was to get the components into a single data -- if you use the LSE data it's too many pages. I found one site that lists the whole 100 so got into EXCEL and can now with JSON / MariaDB start a decent app too - without having to subscribe to anything.

Got data from HERE :

With the data query on EXCEL

Now and thanks to your help I'm back in business !!!!! - Gives me something to do while at one of those endless boring "Town Hall meetings" consultancies like "Accidenture" seem to love and one has to attend even as an external free lancer !!!

cheers
