Same apps in Windows 11 seem to always use much more memory than Windows 10

I have several PC using Windows 11 and Several using Windows 10 and I use many of the same apps (and in most cases the same versions) across all the PCs. In all cases, accrdoing to task manager and Process Explorer etc, the Windows 11 PC seem to be using anywhere form 1.5 to 3 times more memory for the same apps. Most if not all of the PCs have 64bit processors so I doubt using 64bit vs 32bit versions of the apps is the issue.

Why do the same apps seem to be more boated when running in Windows 11?

Is there any way to reduce the excessive memory consumption by Windows 11 for applications?

Please note that I'm not talking about reducing the system and service memory consumption in Windows 11 and instead talking about the third party apps I run. Examples of the apps I'm talking about are antivirus apps like Bitdefender, Browsers, and lots of other third party apps. They all seem to take much more memory in Windows 11 than they do in Windows 10.

I run Bitdefender Internet Security AV/firewall and below is what Task Manager has to say about it.
BDIS has 13 modules, I only run three of them. AV, firewall and Threat Defense.




I can think of two possibilities for higher RAM usage on Windows 11.

1. You don't have the same BD settings on Win 10 and Win 11.
2. The Microsoft cr*p App that's related to BD on only Windows 11. See the below pic.


This "Bitdefender CL Contextual Menu", only shows up in the Apps list on Windows 11.
It's not present on my Windows 10 install.





Side note (FYI)... I used REVO Uninstaller to remove most of the Win 10 and Win 11 Apps...

Well at least it seems that I don't have that "Bitdefender CL Contextual Menu" (Cr)app installed.

It wasn't there at first (Oct 2021), but about a year ago... it just... showed up.
After talking to Bitdefender and Microsoft, neither of which would clam it... it turned out that it was indeed Microsoft. LOL

That Revo Uninstaller looks interesting. Can you use it on multiples of your own systems without buying it over and over?

Just use the free version.

The best part about REVO is that after it uninstalls something... it offers to "scan for left overs"
Always do that scan, and remove what it finds. It cleans up any left over registry entries and left over folders and such.

Which keeps your comp running smoothly.

The Pro Portable version can be used on multiple computers.

I think too many get caught up in things that really doesn't matter. At the end of the day if you aren't having memory or performance issues, what's the issue???

And it's one thing to claim Windows 11 is using "anywhere form 1.5 to 3 times more memory for the same apps" it's another to provide comparative screen shots.

Also, depending on what's going on at any given moment with the PC, memory usage my increase or decrease based on tasks at hand.

Sometimes when you try to "manage" every nook and cranny of an OS, all you end up doing is crating perceived problems that lead to unnecessary headaches
