Hello

I made a shortcut to a .cmd file and set it to run maximized but it runs in a "normal" window. Does anybody know how to fix this? This is not the first time I've had this problem but I haven't found a fix yet.

I don't think a shortcut icon itself can ever be maximized, it's only a small image that is associated with a program's .exe/Executable file and a quick way to open that program rather than having to type programname.exe in a Command Prompt window. Typing the command at a DOS prompt was how we did it before having the GUI/Graphical User Interface of Windows. Whether a program can be set to open maximized is pretty up to the program and its settings, many will open in the last size that was used. Sometimes Windows can be 'trained' through repitition to reopen as the last time.

In the .cmd file UDefrag is started. It gives a progress indication in the form of a map made out of cli printable characters.

I don't want to maximize the icon but run the program the shortcut points to in a maximized window as can be set in the shortcut properties.

That may be an issue with the program. I've seen issues with programs and the advent of the larger screens and resolution settings of the graphics/video adapters, not all could be fixed as desired.

The Command Prompt window can be adjusted in several ways, right-click of the Title bar such as on the Layout tab:

An noted in the Command Prompt window there's still places where Win11 still identifies as Win10.

Not sure if this will work on a command prompt, but a compromise might be to use keyboard shortcut.
When the window is open and in focus, try the Win Key + the UP Arrow.

It isn’t what you want but if it works, it will most probably save you a few clicks?

Perhaps a screenshot of the utility running will help guide us all.
Can you maximise it while it's running?
If not then I'd say you will not succeed in doing so through the shortcut.

I do not understand why you are using a cmd file to run that utility. I do not understand why you are not just running that utility by running its executable.

If you hold the shift key down when you close a window, it's size and position will be remembered. I too have shortcuts that ignore the property setting for window size

@KDAM71: I'm going to repeat what @Try3 said:
I do not understand why you are using a cmd file to run that utility. I do not understand why you are not just running that utility by running its executable.
Could you explain this?

It's easy to set a CLI window to always be maximized by using the available settings in Terminal. If that's what you're after, you need to open a CLI window, go to the down-caret (V) and choose Settings, then use the down-caret in Launch parameters, in Launch mode, uncheck Let Windows decide, then click the down-caret next to Default, check Maximized, and then click the Save button at the bottom of the window. The effect of that is to make all CLI windows run maximized. Close the CLI window, and the next time you open a CLI window, no matter how you do it, it will open maximized.

I often copy and paste into a CLI so it makes more sense to have a small, floating window and position it where I can see the commands I want to take from a webpage.

I just don't understand why windows doesn't open it maximized when I put that in the shortcut properties
It isn't the only example of something not following the shortcut's instructions.
