Unable to change login pin

I cloned the win 11 system onto a new Lenovo AIO (the old one physically broke - smashed screen on a Lenovo AIO!)

Okay it won't accept my login pin, but will accept my password, & continues to do so I have tried to change the pin but still won't accept the new pin. Further when I login to Microsoft, it all worked fine at the first attempt, but as I needed to change the backup email address, it needed a second pin on the mobile, left that for another day.

However when I try to log into Microsoft again, it won't accept the previously accepted details/password.

It gets worse! I opted to use the lost password routine, and thought I successfully reset it with a new password.

Try to log into my Microsoft a/c with new password, but again won't accept it.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Welcome to the forum.
To change a MS account password, it should have been done from the links here.Is that what you did? There are methods of recovery there as well. Change your Microsoft account password - Microsoft Support

Pin should have been disabled before the clone as a pin is tied to the particular TPM of the original device. The PW has to be straightened out before dealing with the pin. Once you get the password situation straightened out, you can see if any of the suggestions here are of any value regarding the pin. It would be of benefit if we knew what message you get when you try to change pin. You may have to reset the tpm.

Hi sorry about the delay in following up.

In essence thee issue is unresolved, in fact if anything it is worse.

Pin doesn't work, and we are unable to change it. We now can no longer get into our Microsoft a/c via the usual way, including your suggested link. However we can get into the account via one drive! However anything we do there has no subsequent affect, even when we change passwords. In effect we can get in a roundabout way, but we are unable to amend any details.

My view is do a clean install, first backing up everything on One drive to a local storage medium.

Have to say am not very impressed with Windows 11

If you choose the forgotten password option on any sign in page what happens?
Do you have any recovery options added to your account - 2nd email address or phone?
Is 2FA enabled on the account?
When you enter the password ensure that caps lock &/or Number lock isn’t enabled.

Thank you.

Yes we went through the change password routine, typed it twice and was accepted. However when one tries to re-access the Microsoft account via the standard approach the new password is rejected - we have tried this several times and is consistent. The answer is not the upper/lower case etc.

I now believe that the is a glitch with in windows 11 and TPM - we are reverting to Windows 10 via re-install.

As I said, not impressed with Windows 11

Is the pc connects to the internet via WiFi or Ethernet?
Hopefully Windows 10 will work better for you.

I used to have an occasional problem using my pin number on my laptop. Sometimes it would work and other times it wouldn't be recognized and I would have to use my password. I solved the problem by turning off the TPM in the BIOS, restarting the computer and entering the BIOS and turned the TPM back on. Then I just had to enter a new pin number in my MS Account. I can't say this will fix your problem but it did work for me.
