So yes custom mode I can live with - mostly - except now have a black google page and light top bar. Not keen on a dark google page. Set colour to green. So google is part light, part dark, menu and task bar are green, mail is still blue, right click is black, quick access is all grey. Not really consistent or eye friendly.

Actually I made several changes:

1) Set different Wallpaper backgrounds for each V. Desktop (5)

2) Removed Team Chat from Taskbar

3) Added Classic Start Menu. Taskbar is still centered, so both Classic and W11 start buttons are available. (Right click on classic shell button doesn't work to open 2'nd start menu.)

I understand that, but, honestly..., does one need to be reminded of that?

Besides that, that word Recommended makes me nervous! I have a reasonable suspicion other ~~sh,~~ stuff is gonna appear there in the not too distant future!!!

I thought it was a waste when I first saw it but I do use it and find it helpful.

I ignore the heading and just use the section below for most recently used files. This saves from opening the app and searching for recently opened, of using Explorer to navigate to the file.

I take that back. It seems it is my netbook won't display the colours (clearly the graphics aren't up to it hence everything stays grey). On the HP laptop, themes change the taskbar colours and start screen colours, even in light theme. So I've got it looking nice. And the apps pinned on the start menu and task bar and it's quite smooth and quick to use that way. But - it still feels like "so that's ok but where's the start menu"?! The start menu isn't actually a start menu. It's a kind of box with some apps pinned to it - like another desktop with shortcuts on. That's what I find frustrating. Part of productivity is being able to see a lot of things instantly at the same time.

But having looked at open shell and start 11 - no - don't want to go back to retro menus either - I do like still having right click for device manager and shut down. I guess just want the Windows 10 menu back - with the live tile for the weather

whether its a simple case of "where's my Cheese" or a more logical reset to familiar workflow any changes to the OS in either design or workflow will generate a "need" to change it back, and there will also be those willing and able to sell the tools to achieve the reversions.

The day when they release a new OS that it doesn't happen with, that'll be the day when people should start to get worried.

I don't think it even needs removing - I just unpinned it from start menu and left it in the apps list.

I'd quite like to remove it from the apps list, i like that part of the start menu to still be clean, i even group all my programs into folders that group them together to keep it as minimal as possible,

I guess I'm missing the colours on the start menu on W10.

I'm keeping it on the netbook though - it's brought that to life.

Finally got colours sorted on the netbook. Themes don't change the taskbar and menu colour on this machine. But setting it to custom, then dark for windows default mode and light for default app mode - then turning on "show accent colour on start and task bar" - THEN selecting a colour! That isn't black. So I now have colour on the task bar and menu. The right click menu menu is now dark which is better than grey

NOW if I select themes, the task bar and menu change accordingly. But only if custom is selected first and dark mode selected for default app mode. Strange as it isn't dark mode at all now with a theme.

As for Paint being all grey - that is sorted as well. It just needed the window opening to max size then there's colour on it. Strange again that when not on max size there's no colour.
