windows 11 startup messed up by latest cumulative update

bios settings look correct. just boot from usb after its done (F8, you stated). post a pic of what options show before choosing one to boot from. sometimes multiple partitions will show up from boot devices

saved (F10 was not working) and exit. Reboot got me the same old sign in page, Reboot and F12 then got a few options if I select use a device

I went to startup settings and chose boot from usb ....same results......Really, you guys have been wonderful, but geeez...what the heck is wrong with this pc?
really considering doing a reset with save the files.....don't have many options around me for pc repair, but surely won't be cost effective

hmm ok. lets try this. download the windows 11 iso (doesnt matter what build - or if you already have a windows installation usb ready, use it) and boot to it and access command prompt:

once in command prompt, type:

net user Administrator /active:yes
Code: 
net user Administrator password
Code: 
exit

then boot back to windows normally. now on the logon screen, you will have

YOU
Adminstrator

in the bottom left of the screen. click on Administrator and type
Code: 
password
for the password. then we can troubleshoot from within windows.

I think you didn't make the Hiren's boot disk correctly. The drive should show with the volume name you gave it.

When you said boot to it, you meant the USB right? Fingers crossed 🤞

I followed the instructions and backschecked screen from web against mine - was a match ( this is from the drive of course)

@88% done creating w11 media

Something is wrong. It should show as a bootable device.

everything good till exit - I rebooted and see same window with my usual log in window ( name and phone number) tried twice with and without usb plugged)

when you enabled Administrator it said successful and does not show on the logon screen?

you can try @FreeBooter tutorial to do it through regedit instead, but if cmd didnt enable it, im not sure that this will work either

correct - everything got the msg sucessfull

should I be in D instead?

"another oddity - D drive was my secondary drive for Photos and other stuff, and C the main one - X is a new thing too: is being labeled as boot, D as OS and C as Data...and I have too letter E as winretools"

since you have a windows installation usb ready now, you can try this:

Boot your computer from a Windows installation media > repair > command prompt (again)
run the commands below one after the other (hit Enter on each line) to replace the utilman.exe file with the cmd.exe file.

^if C is not where %systemdrive%\Windows is located, then D: or whatever your Windows installation is on (per your post above)

cd Windows\System32\

ren c:\windows\system32\utilman.exe c:\windows\system32\utilman.exe.bak

boot back to windows logon screen and let me know when there
