Windows Terminal 1.18.3181.0 for Windows 10 and Windows 11

 github:

Welcome to the mid-November servicing release for Windows Terminal!

This release includes the following bug fixes:

Bug Fixes

Usability

  • Environment variables will no longer spontaneously disappear if one happens to have a NUL in it (#16190)
  • The "Azure Cloud Shell" connector has been updated to support the new cloud shell protocol (#16247)
  • The regression where "Cascadia Mono" (or "... Code") would not be found on upgrade has been un-regressed (#16196)
  • The light color schemes now include a selection background that is actually visible (#16243) (thanks @TahaHaksal!)
    • You may need to delete the light color schemes from your settings to see this change.
  • With the new rendering engine, some pixel shaders should no longer cause characters to have a black background (#16219)

Reliability

  • Terminal no longer leaks nigh-unto infinite amounts of memory when it's out of focus (#16251)
  • When you close a window on Windows 10, there's a much lower chance of Terminal blowing up spontaneously (#16267)
  • (newly backported from 1.19) A rare crash seen on Windows 10 when creating a new window has been obliterated (#16047)

Miscellaneous

  • The issue where stable-branded binaries contained a -preview moniker has been fixed (#16122)
  • The system menu no longer grows hundreds of copies of the Settings... menu item when you close and reopen a window (#16225)
Binary files inside the unpackaged distribution archive bear the version number 1.18.231114001.

Time for a rant...

Microsoft's latest game...

We have... updates for: Windows, Terminal, EDGE, Winget, .NET Framework, Defender, Feature Experience Pack, Online Experience Pack, Drivers, etc., etc., etc.

Instead of putting all this cr*p in one update, MS updates everything individually.
Seems to me like they are trying to convince us that we "need" Windows to be a subscription service.

The "only" stand alone update I can see a reason for, would be Defender, because there are new definitions all the time.
The rest is one big MS brainwashing scam.

End rant.

However, download OK from GitHub - Windows Terminal v1.18.3181.0 - via MS Store.

Yes, didn't see it yet on MS Store, maybe it will just take a few days.

Strange I do not see the update in the Microsoft Store I am still on version 1.18.2822.0

I downloaded Windows Terminal though the store also I tried to update it though WingetUI, but it failed on 95% and I got this error:

Moreover, on WingetUI the source says Winget, and I am almost sure it should say Microsoft Store.
Any ideas?

Could you please check your Winget or Winget UI for the source of the Windows Terminal?
As you can see from my picture it says the source on Winget UI (which is basically same Winget) that the source for the Windows Terminal is Winget and not Microsoft Store which is strange because I installed Windows Terminal 2 weeks ago after clean install of Windows 11.

The last terminal update I got was from winget. Previous from Ms Store. I find winget updates sooner. I would install it from the GitHub link.

Thank you, just to make sure if I would update through GitHub/Winget will I be able to get future updates from Microsoft Store?
Don't know. I suspect Winget will update first so Store won't offer it.

Just successfully installed from the msixbundle from Github. Worked fast and completely. Opening Terminal > Settings shows the new version number, as does Installed Apps.
Confirmed, this worked. First download
> winget download Microsoft.WindowsTerminal
then manually install update from Downloads folder : Terminal_1.18.3181.0_User_X64_msix_en-US.msix

Mines came from Microsoft Store as I have Microsoft Store opened 24/7/365 with libraries so I actually watched it download and update. But ofcourse winget says, keep in mind I am on Windows Beta Insiders which might have an effect on when it's available:
winget show Microsoft.WindowsTerminal

but this may have been because I didn't know how to use winget a minute before this and did:
winget upgrade Microsoft.WindowsTerminal
No available upgrade found.
No newer package versions are available from the configured sources.

Looks like Microsoft finally responded to me asking about Microsoft Store:

and if they mean by retail as in the released version of Windows 11, then this may explain why I got it earlier as I am on Windows 11 Beta Insiders.
