Much nicer menu system and theme (Lunar Black) , no probs with Firefox esr and still can access shared NAS folder for a 14 TB disk (not even thought of disks that size when XP was around).
Anyway it's still possible to run these sorts of OS'es as VM's if you want to -- I've also got a few apps on them that I still use regularly. The legacy hardware is just too costly to replace (Vinyl studio disc cutter etc) especially now vinyl blanks are easy to source for making people customised vinyls from their own music.
and a tiny use of CPU on a Host - barely noticeable
Looks good. I’ve experimented with VMs & XP but could never get the sound to work on the VM. Checked all solutions I could find but none worked So gave up.

Working perfectly
in the sound settings you need to emulate (at least on KVM/QEMU) the AC 97 sound system -- on a Windows host the old Sound blaster SB 16 might work.
Thanks @jimbo45 I was using the Windows Pro Hyper V. I only wanted to install it for a game which didn’t work with 10/11.
It always said no audio card installed.
I bought a cheap Windows 8.1 notebook & that works fine with the game.
