Hi folks

Not piracy but any decent apps getting just the sound from youtube.

This version of Magnificat by J.S Bach (no copyright - he died too long ago) is brilliant but the original CD's etc are well out of release.

Audacity hands down. And it free.


This is an older version, but you generally want the settings, set like mine (RED box).
These settings will record whatever is coming out of your speakers.
Then, hit Record (BLUE box), then start the youtube.

When finished you can highlight and delete what you don't want, on the waveform.







When you get the junk trimmed from start and or finish... just "Export" the file in your favorite flavor...

Ones I've used
free-Audacity -records audio only-works great
Paid - Audials -records both video and audio or just audio (I have an old version of this one I bought back in the early days when I was burning cds for my car and is a little bit easier to learn than Audacity. I built up a huge library of music and video with it. It will record any sound or video you see and hear on your computer.)

If you want to avoid the piracy element, you can find secondhand or surplus stock at ebay or discogs. Discogs is better for searching the discography of an artist. Here is "Bach Magnificat Karajan" search results at Disccogs:
It appears von Karajan Bach's Magnificat was issued twice with Deutsche Grammophone, with the Berliner Philhamoniker (1979, Vynil/Cassette), and (1981, Vynil/Cassette.)
The recording also appears on CD as Bach, Herbert von Karajan, Hanns-Martin Schneidt - Magnificat / 3 Motetten (1999, CD), and sells from about £2.60 + p&p.

Don't know if you still need it but,
Online converter.
Tried many and MalwareBytes stopped me lots of times but, finally
got one that works and did not get warnings from either MB or
uBlock Origin:

Y2Mate - YouTube to MP3 Converter

Converted Three Dog Night and downloaded the file.
Scanned with MB and passed. Also, plays well , good sound.
These are screens that I took to validate my actions.
First is MB scan
Second is player
Third is where they are from.
I think it's pretty safe to try.

Most (if not all) of those online converters run youtube-dl.exe (and other common tools such as ffmpeg) on their server to download and convert YouTube files. You're better off running those tools directly yourself on your own PC and avoid those sites altogether. Those sites often change and, as you found out, you may have to "try many" to get one that works for you.

Well, as you can see by the screens, it is working fine.
If the site was not kosher, I think MB would of prevented
me from reaching it as it did on many other.
I like my apps as well but, if it's only for one instance then,
it might be worth not having to install another one.

There are various apps from the Store which strip the sound track from a YouTube video and save it to an audio file format. I used one a while ago but can't remember which one. Search for "youtube music downloader" in the Store.

Just for information, there is copyright on the recording as well from the date of publication.
Musicians Institute Library: Music Copyright and Licensing: Copyright Duration the sound recording section.

Most often, online converters end up sounding like crap!
Try to find a utility that will record your direct system sound.
I use EaseUS RecExperts...





Btw, yes, it is a magnificent performance!

I use "4K video downloader" (I use the paid version). They also have free converters.

Hi there
I´ve solved it another way - as usual totally different to everybody else. I've got a high quality video and sound hardware capture device so I can grab the decent quality sound directly from the output from either the computers sound system the GPU or the 4kUHD monitor I'm using -- usually the monitor sound captured by the hardware capture device is good enough for the purpose.

I agree those online things are really cruddy and usually they only want your email or whatever so you can get pestered with ads.

BTW that video capture device also has a slot for an internal SD card which is handy for recording to that rather than the computer at times so it's easy to copy to phone or play into a decent studio quality amp. I often use that device (has a recording schedule on it too) so I can record limited Netflix / Video prime series when I'm away from computer etc. Wasn't a cheap device but worth every € !!, Also a way to get SKY recordings off a SKY Q box etc.
