Solved AdwCleaner

Today my computer was running a bit slow so thought i'd run some programs on it ! Why, because i am a stickler about a clean computer !
After running AdwCleaner, Malwarebytes, and ESET ............ AdwCleaner picked up 15 different pups which i quarantined/delete all the others came back clean ! I usually run them every week, posting this just because you think there is nothing there does not mean it's clean ! We all know PUP's are not harmful ! Running smoothly again !

You know what, I used to use ADWCleaner as well back in the day. One time though
I cleaned my PC out using the newest version and low and behold, I could not do
anything with the PC after the cleanup. I did use ADW first and that's when it all stopped
working. I had to reinstall from scratch and I was not pleased. I have to say this was
on W7. I haven't used it since. This is not a rant but, just my experience.

@Flashorn ... i have used AdwCleaner on hundreds & hundreds & hundreds of my clients and never had anything like that happen to any of them ! There had to be another reason why your computer did that ! Wish i had been around to investigate that !

And I would've welcomed your help. I was on 7Forums for a while but, this happened after I had other obligations to attend too.
I still have that notebook and it still works perfectly. It has 7 Ultimate retail. That OS is Soo easy to work with.

For some reason AdwCleaner has not been updated for ages. The last update was AdwCleaner 8.4 released on 22 August, 2022. Before then it received regular updates.

Malwarebytes is just as pointless in 2023. It's still resting on its past history when Windows operating systems were very vulnerable.

Malwarebytes AdwCleaner 8.4 released on 22 August, 2022.

Malwarebytes for Windows 4.5.23 released on 23 February, 2023.

Each have their own protection & cleaning engines !

In terms of compatibility, Malwarebytes has apps for all major operating systems (OS). This includes Windows, Android, macOS, ChromeOS, and iOS devices. At the same time, you can use Microsoft Defender on Windows devices only. So if you want to secure multiple devices, Malwarebytes is a better choice.

To be exact mine is Malwarebytes Premium 4.6.4.286 ! The reference up above was when the data base was updated not the version !

Yes, that's what I have as well.
It didn't say data base only released on ....
so , I thought you meant version.

Don't mix up software/build update with a database update.
The software only needs an update when a new UI is created, or a new function.
The data base, on the other hand, will receive new updates when the devs need to add something new.

No matter what version you have it does work & dam good ................ moving on !!

The database hasn't been updated for ages either. It seems like they have given up on AdwCleaner.

Malwarebytes is like MS, they come up with an idea then abandon it, like buying Binisoft WFC.
They bought AdwCleaner to incorporate it into Malwarebytes as well, so it is no longer needed.

Most users should appreciate that AdwCleaner was never, is not now, nor does it appear to ever be advanced to a real-time protection.

Although, AdwCleaner is still a very valued utility, even with less frequent scanning than a real-time protection's scheduled scanner.

Many users see that much of the responsibilities have been moved to the flagship product for system protections and Malwarebytes Browser Guard (MBG) for browser protections.

Premium clients should take great comfort in the fact that MBAM's “Update package version” may sometimes be updated dozens of times per day as staffers complete their analyses.

Similarly, MBG's many individual databases are also updated with comparable frequencies.

Dicu Alexandru's Malwarebytes Windows Firewall Control is still currently active, up-to-date, and supported. Integrating this quite separate, valuable app into MBAM does not seem to be in the near future.

The malware landscape threats are ever evolving. User's reasoning needs to evolve, too.

AdW Cleaner has its niche by specializing in identifying PUPs, browser hijackers, unwanted toolbars and the like. Well respected by many.

More frequent updates would be welcome.

Beating a dead horse. It's not an active project anymore - because investing more time and work on it seems to be regarded as a waste of resources. Their core and main project is Malwarebytes - and that's what the officials will recommend instead (as can be seen even on their official forum). If you ran Malwarebytes in the first place - you'd probably find the same PUPs and 0 results with AdwCleaner on a 2nd scan.

Anyway, PUP stands for Potentially Unwanted Program - so... i do find it a bit concerning that you supposedly had (or have) hundreds of clients and supposedly do a weekly scan - yet found so many on your computer. I mean, that's like fixing cars for a living - yet some other mechanic finds over a dozen issues on your car - despite of driving it everyday and taking it for a check-up at same mechanic on a weekly basis. Then again, good for you - since skill and earnings rarely goes hand in hand - but i digress.

@neves ............ i wouldn't even tell you the places we Malware Specialist goes to test theroy's, new programs for how to remove PUP's, Virus & Trojans and other bad things that infect computers ! I came here to these forums so i could help people and all i have had is negative thoughts about what i do & a lot of the programs ........ if they work they work ! We were told than when we left our main forums there would be lots of people who would question our work ! I guess they were right ! I need to re-think my thoughts ! Everyone have a great day !
