Authenticator blocking access to Microsoft account

OS
Windows 10
Background:
Need to access Microsoft account to change payment method so I can continue using Office 365. Attempted to sign in by usual method but told I had to use Authenticator.
Problem:
Followed the instructions to create Authenticator account which includes downloading the app. Phone said I already had the account (true but for work) and so wouldn't download the app again. Created a second account on Authenticator on the phone for Microsoft only to be told that I couldn't use the password-free feature as it was already in use by the work account. Stumped.
Because I couldn't login to Microsoft, I discovered that prevented me from getting access to support.
My 365 subscription no longer being valid, I now cannot update any files or use OneDrive.
As a solution, I thought, I'll download Office 2021. However, that process also needed a Microsoft account. I created a new account, but access to an existing account was still required. I give up.
Microsoft has taken security to an absurd extreme.
Advice needed:
If you have any solutions. please let me know. It will be greatly appreciated.

You can use Windows Hello (PIN/passkey), if you are already logged in on PC, it ignores even 2FA.
Otherwise select Other ways - Password - Forgot Password - it should send an email with a reset.

You say "if you're already logged in on PC'. Logged in to what? I'm logged into Windows but no other MS products. I'll follow up the other suggestion. Thanks.

Then you can use Edge to login into MS services.

Windows automatically creates a passkey for MS account.
