Automatic Backup

Ok so, I have two 5TB HDDs. . (One is internal and the other is external). . . They both have the same files (TV Shows & Movies). . . I would like to set it up to where when I place a file or files in the internal one, it automatically sends the new files to the external one. (I use the external one as my TV Shows & Movies backup.

FreeFileSync Mirror Synchronisation is what I use for the exact reason you want to mirror for.



Free to use. The donation version has negligible differences I have found, but I like to donate to them every couple of months because it’s so good and they’re very generous..

Once your mirror config is created, you can either create a task schedule, or use RealTimeSync (that comes within this software) to create a a RealTimeSync job from your mirror config file and place the RealTimeSync file in your startup folder.

If you have created more than one FreeFileSync jobs, you can have them run all together and save them as a batch file and then as above, create a task for it to run or import it into RealTimeSync.

When a RealTimeSync job is created and set to run in your Startup folder (or you can use the tutorial for creating tasks for FreeFileSync and use the same process for a RealTimeSync job task), it will notice any changes made to your folder and then mirror the change to your external at an interval after detection that you can set.

You can set up jobs... like TV shows to TV shows and Movies to Movies.

You can set a schedule in Karen's Replicator or run all the jobs manually with one click.

I use Karens to keep both my storage drives the same... (4 jobs).
I just run then manually whenever I've added stuff to the 4TB drive (my working drive), and with one click... anything added to any of the 4 partitions... is copied to the 8TB drive.

Easy peasy.






Karen's Replicator is a tiny program, with no cr*p attached. It just does it's thing.
It doesn't call home... it just does what it's supposed to.


Here's one of my "jobs"...




I manually copy/paste my OS Bckups, because it's easier than messing with Image Guardian.
I only keep the most current Win 10 and Win 11 backup on G:\
I keep three months of them on K:\

It's a great program.
I have a peculiar issue with the old game: Icewind Dale.
It saves the game in "Documents" even though the game is installed on my F:\ drive.

So... that's one of my Replicator, "jobs"




I had run into a problem with Icewind Dale.
If I restored Windows from a backup, I would lose all my game progress.
So I created a folder on the F:\ drive and told Karens to copy the Icewind Dale save game to there.

So now if I do a restore Windows from a backup, I don't lose my game progress.




I see lots of folks moving various User folders to a storage drive... and then, down the road having profile problems.
With Karen's you can create a "job" for any of the User folders. It will copy them to anywhere you want.
And you don't have to "move" those folders.


Pretty much anything you can think up, Karen's Replicator can do.
It's such a basic tool, that it's only limited by your imagination.
Unlike most software these days, they didn't just toss in everything and the kitchen sink.

Now if I could just figure out how to have it order pizza for me... I'd be set.

So what you are saying is that you want to expose your backup to the same risk of malware as your onboard disk.

I only connect my backup disks when I am off the internet.
I backup my onboard disk.
Then I remove the backup disk.
Only then do I reconnect to the internet.

I have my external locked so nothing can write to it without a password
