BIOS Updates

I have just done the BIOS update on the Alienware Area51 and all is good. I do not like doing BIOS updates but I have never had any problems flashing the BIOS with an Alienware or Dell on Windows 11 but I understand some people have.

I've never had an issue when I've done it and with my current motherboard it would be a snap. But I haven't done it, no need to , yet

My Dell Latitude 5410 has had a successful bios update applied as an optional update in Windows Update, as supplied to MS by Dell.




In fact, on checking today there's another one waiting to be installed.....




Edit: well, that was painless....

I usually prefer to update manually myself, but I've let my Dell laptop update the firmware 3 or 4 times through Windows, and it hasn't had a problem.

I've flashed firmware a few thousdand times on numerous devices, and have had issues exactly 3 times. One of those is my current motherboard lol. So a 0.1% failure rate for all my attempts is tolerable, especially since I was able to get all of them working again.

My Dell and Microsoft computers are configured to automatically update drivers and BIOS.

My Alienware Bios Update, never comes through Windows update I check my service tag page for find new drivers and sort by newest

My Dell will always insist on the Bios update being done manually

I do BIOS updates anytime a new release it out. Also have no issues suggesting or helping those seeking help. That's me.

That said, be aware anytime you do a BIOS update things default back to basics so it's always wise to do the "load optimized defaults" if available. Also if you've done any customized settings, they'll need to be re-done after the update.

I should add that 99 percent of my BIOS updates are on custom built systems as the only "store bought" PC's I have are laptops, and their BIOS' are auto-updated through the vendor specific software for the laptop.

Same here, as soon as Bios update is available I always get it. Alienware and Dell always mark the updates to BIOS as urgent on their update page

If you "de-bloated" your system, you may have removed the app that does alerts for driver and BIOS updates.

I didn't remove much, which app did you have in mind?

It's in "Dell Command | Update".

You can go to Dell Drivers & downloads instead of using their application.
Dell Drivers n downloads - Dell
Your then put in your Dell Service tag [or agree to let them detect it] so it will only show you drivers & Bios for the specific hardware that they recorded in your hardware manifest when they sent you the computer. [This avoids your seeing & having to wade through drivers for other variants in the same computer model series]

This isn't true with "Dell Command | Update". The app knows to look at the service tag for your machine and only services your machine.

Gary,

I described use of the Dell Drivers & downloads website section.
It invites you to enter your Dell Service tag yourself and, as an alternative, seeks your permission for its detection procedure.
With that entered / detected, the Dell Drivers & downloads website section also only relates to your specific computer.

Sorry, Denis, I thought you were offering "Dell Drivers and Downloads" on the Dell website as a better alternative to the "Dell Command | Update" app. My apologies.
