Can’t download, copy or move anything to c drive

I don’t know what happened or what I did because all of a sudden I can’t move anything to C drive unless it’s in a folder. When I try to just move a file to the c drive instead of the yes or no permission button pops up like some people say happens. Mine gives the same error saying a requirement permission is not held by the client.

I’ve done a icacls reset but I’m open to trying a different one. I could have sworn I used to be able to download and do anything to the c drive but nothing worked.

I changed permission after it started to try to fix the error but it wasn’t working and I hope I didn’t corrupt files because of that

Please any help is appreciated thank you

Thanks but nothing there seems to help. I think I messed up everything by changing permissions. Can I revert them safely? Without making anything worse. Certain apps can’t write anymore and stuff and I’m freaking out as I have a lot of stuff on this drive

The post I gave you was purely for the info about not being able to copy files to your C: Drive. The permissions thing is a whole other story. I never mess with them.
Someone will be here shortly, I am sure, to advise you on the permissions.

I hope, it seems fine for now. I can save files anywhere on the c drive except the root obviously but what I don’t understand is the not being able to copy anything to the c drive as people said it would just ask for permission but mine doesn’t

Thank you btw, I ran a few repairs on apps that broke which helped a lot like Ms store and stuff like that. I also changed the owner back to trusted installer to hopefully fix anymore issues

I have often found, for what reason I have no idea, some files or folders will ask for permission, some just copy over. I find that if I just go with it, life is so much easier. Windows is frustrating enough. I mean how long has Eleven been operating, and it seems worse than it did when it first got introduced.
I’ll “Take Ownership” with folders etc on external or secondary drives, but I never mess with my C: Drive. It’s a recipie for disaster in my opinion.

Also, you should be backing your system up before making changes like messing with permission. Backing up is vitally important these days. I would suggest that if you don’t already have one, pop down to a store and invest in a 2 terabyte hard drive.Make a system image when your PC is back to the way it was, and most importantly, copy the files you are worried about.

Yea. I’ll just live with it and any possible error I may have done hasn’t showed yet but If it does I’ll just deal with it when it gets there

It has been like that for years.

Despite all posts suggesting how to change permissions, it is a really bad plan to relax the permissions on the C drive root folder as that makes it easier for hackers to hack your pc.

This forum is littered with posts about things not working properly after changing C drive permissions - one small error and everything is down the pan (especially if you have not made an image backup first)..

In any case, using the root drive for non system files just leads to a cluttered C drives.
Don't you just hate people who copy a zillion word/excel/pdf files etc to the desktop rather than to organised folders?
The same is true for the C: root drive.
