No idea what is happening here. Sometimes, the whole desktop goes black with large icons and no taskbar instead of its normal; appearance (screenshot).. I'm not sure when it does this, as i happens when I'm not using tghe computer - today it was before 18.30, if that helps

I'm not a hardware expert but sounds like it might be graphics related to me. Until one who is steps in, here's a couple of things to try to get you started.

Search 'reliability' select View Reliability History from search results to see if you can quickly see a pattern in the failures.
You are mainly concerned with Windows events marked in red. Click on each red X to see more information below. From there you can select view details..

Make sure you have installed the latest graphics and motherboard drivers, and UEFI bios updates either manually or using Armoury Crate. That includes that you have the latest version of Armoury Crate. PRIME Z790-A WIFI|Motherboards|ASUS USA

Couldn't see anything logical in Reliability
Ran DISM and did all the updates you suggested - so far no problem, though I don't use the computer much nowadays. I'd actually uninstalled Armoury Crate as I wasn't sure what it was! Also updated through Microsoft Store and Driver Updater.
So maybe it's solved. Thanks for your help

Hopefully it solved your problem. Armoury Crate is software specifically designed for Asus motherboards to provide centralized control of supported ROG gaming products which includes installing and updating correct drivers.

Not a Win 11 question, but how do i get rid of this thing bottom right that seems to be linked to Armoury Crate?

No, Still got the problem (screenshot). Also getting a green "Insider Build" problem on closing - "Something kernel mode trap." "Go to www.windows.com/stopcode"
I seem to have inadvertently got on to the Insider setup, presumably be installing these previews - I didn't realise it was the same thing!. Can I get back out of it?

Well the first thing you have to figure out is what version of Insider you signed up for and have installed. With certain channels, to get to the stable channel, a clean install is required. If you can get to the command prompt as administrator
type winver
Report back with complete version and release #

I don't mess with insider builds myself and have no experience in it, but it seems the general consensus in this list of threads asking the same question is to uninroll from the program, back up you personal data, and clean install. Search results for query: leave insider

You have to unenroll from the Insider program using whatever email address you signed up with. This MS article explains that part of it.

This article explains all the build scenarios and whether or not you will have to clean install. If it were me, I wouldn't mess around with at any other solution. I'd want to know my system was completely clean.

Clean Install Windows 11 Tutorial
I didn't sign up for any - all I did was install the Preview update. 22H2 Build 22621.2792
I did sign up about a year ago, but got out of it as soon as I realised what was involved and installed my latest update and went back to the normal Windows and had no problems ever since, till now. I'm assuming it is something to do with the Preview install (no enrollment required)

Have checked on the Windows Insider programme and I'm not enrolled
