A desktop icon for "duet display" showed up on my system. I did not download nor install this app. Not sure how it came to be on this PC. I have WU paused until 6/14/2023 and it is not in the update history listings. Any ideas on how it came to be installed before I uninstall it?

Update: Found a forum that links this to HP systems and Apple iTunes updates. I don't have iTunes installed, but HP has installed Apple support at the same time as this app. I will uninstall all Apple apps and this duet app. also. Maybe this will help other HP system users here.

I ran a full system scan with the installed Norton360, restarted, and nothing was found, so it looks like this wasn't malware, just unwanted ware.

Hi there. This most likely is NOT Apple, but when you were downloading a program what can sometimes happen is there are adverts for other software in the installation setup and then it says Yes; meaning Yes please install this software. This is probably, most likely what happened.

The install of the Duet and Apple support apps. occurred while the system was idle. I did not initiate it. I walked into the room and the PC was at a restart signon. The screensaver program that should have been running wasn't. According to the forum I found, this was a download and install done by HP as part of their update process and was reported by other users of HP systems. I don't like the idea of not being informed of the update prior to the download and install, and I'm still trying to figure out what to set to keep it from happening again.

This is becoming the norm now. Unanounced updates from bloated software developers that nobody needs. Hope you find a way to disable this

HP has an optional update service for their systems. It is divided into six categories, Audio, BIOS, Network, Printer, Video, and All Other Updates. The user can select which of the six categories to be followed. I just unchecked the All Other selection, so we'll see what happens. I also submitted a feedback to HP concerning the issue and am waiting for a response from HP support.
