F8 key does not work

I want to boot using Windows 10 from a memory stick. I need this for just one program which work better with W 10 than W 11. Brian

The Boot Menu on an ACER is F12 or Esc or F9.
Most probably F12 or Esc.

You could also just copy and save the pic.
There were one or two discrepancies on the pic at the website. The pic I posted has been corrected.

That's pretty much what I do, when I find something save-worthy at a website or on a forum.
I have a folder on my storage drive... H:\PICTURES\TECH PICS

I'd bet some members here have such a folder filled with your posted funny pictures (from your inexhaustible collection).

I take it you found the correct key for the Boot Menu?

Yes. If I press the SHIFT key when I hit Restart, this takes me to the Windows Boot screen.

However, having tried the suggestions above my keyboard is not working properly. When I press a key a character different from the one pressed appears on the screen. If someone can help me fix this I would be most grateful. Thanks, Brian

I'm not really a laptop type person, but I believe that the Fn key will switch the keys from their primary function to their secondary function, and back again (if... that's even the cause of the problem).

Maybe someone with a laptop could provide more info.

Cheers Ghot, that is a handy table.

If it's just one key it could have crumbs stuck under it or something. You could try canned air on the keyboard. Some laptops will open the boot menu just by pressing the escape key repeatedly when switching on. What opens up is a menu that lets you select from various things, including bios, but also the boot menu. Select boot menu and then select your usb drive.

If various keys aren't doing what they should - see what happens after you've installed from your usb as it might just be a software thing.

Please give us some examples.
- Perhaps the £ key produces #
- Perhaps the " key produces @
- Perhaps the k key produces 2
- Perhaps the 0 key produces *

My wife had this happen on her old HP laptop twice. When using a USB keyboard the problem didn't happen. The fix for the first time was a replacement keyboard. Worked great for about a year or so. The second time it happened we replaced the laptop with a new one. The old laptop was stripped of the hardware and went to the electronic recycling center. A little drastic but she was also experiencing othe problems with it.
