How to require password when open USB drive?

I have a Passport drive connected to D: and it's encrypted and a password is set but everytime I open the drive in Explorer, it does not prompt for the password and I'm able to access all the files. How do I forget the drive and require password to open the drive?

Have you tried the USB on a different computer? Could be it's associated with your computer and automatically opens. Or maybe like for a Webmail page tell it not to remember, requires entering the password.

I don't have another computer near by but how do I forget the drive so I have to enter password again?

There are probably many ways, but you could try USBDeview. I believe it’s like a portable app, you don’t need to install it, just run it. Just don’t remove any drives you want/need connected, by accident.

How is the device encrypted - what software? Where is the encryption software installed - a portable program on the computer, a portable program on the USB device or a fully installed program on the computer?

Plenty of options here
(Note many of the PROGRAM options don't make an distinction between flash or drive, even tho the description may specify)

How was this encrypted? If you used bitlocker (only available in windows 11 pro), see here:

Re-reading the OP and OP's subsequent response, and other contributions, I'm a little confused ....
- is the OP concerned that even though encrypted there is no requirement for a password and all files are accessible?
or
- does the OP want to get rid of the encryption and/or password so all files are instantly accessible?

These are confusing statements ....

I didn’t think it was confusing. I believe the OP wants to force windows to forget the drive so when the USB is reconnected, the USB might revert back to asking for a password again (which must of happened in the past?)
The OP (I believe) wants the USB password protected.
Currently, he plugs the USB in and no password is asked for. It isn’t working the way he wants it to or did in the past.

If I am wrong, then it is obviously confusing to me also.

That's the way I'm understanding what the OP said. I would like to help but I don't use BitLocker which I think is what the OP is using.

Yes it's encrypted with BitLocker. I just reset the password to my USB drive and backed up the recovery key to my Microsoft account. When I rebooted my PC, the bios asked me to input my recovery key since Secure Boot detected a change. I removed the USB drive, rebooted again and it still asked me for the recovery key but for the c: drive. I entered the recovery key that I saved for the d: drive and it booted to Windows and I am able to access my D: drive without entering the password. What's the point of setting a password on BitLocker? When does it ask a user to enter the password?

Because you unlocked the drive and bitlocker with your recovery key, you proved you own the computer and drive. And the removable drive as well since it was set up on the computer itself. Bitlocker can be set to automatically unlock the drive by default.

Try the USB in another computer, you should find you will be prompted for a password.
