Leaving the Canary Channel

I'm thinking about stopping any new Canary Builds on my new desktop. I checked and all I see is an option to leave the Insider Program. I just want to stop getting new Canary builds but still get Windows Updates. Is this possible? I have turned off getting updates for 7 days because I don't like the two latest Canary builds. MS is going in a direction that I can't customize Windows 11 the way I want.

Your only option is to clean install Windows 11 as of i know there is no way to leave the Canary Build.

No, there will be no cumulative updates for the Canary Channel, it's a feature update for each new build. A clean install is your only way out.

Initial build series per channel:

I never understand why no one checks this information before joining an Insider channel, there's countless threads about this very question and yet everyone still continues to do it.

I'll never understand why people will give an answer like that when they don't completely know what their talking about. We where not told that the Dev builds were now the Canary builds until it was to late to switch. All I want to do is stop getting new Canary builds but still get the other updates that are released. Your reply was of no help and definitely not called for.

Old coalmines used these types of devices !!! The bird in the cage is a canary.





I think in Kentucky / West Virginia there are still some underground coal fires that have been burning for ages maybe for over 50 years. Smashing mountain tops off too didn't help either. The history of Coal mining in West Virginia and Kentucky should bring a horror back to anybody today.

In the UK too there's one that's been burning for over 20 years near Burnley just outside Manchester although it's quite deep underground and currently isn't "per se" a danger but yet could be. - but that fact is hidden from UK populations -- but rather than settle these hideous issues people rabbit on about electric cars etc in spite of the fact nearly every city in the planet wants to get rid of any sort of car completely.

I suspect that the Canary channel is just the same -- put the bird in there but if it dies "What do we do next". From my experience Ms has absolutely lost the plot on QC and regression testing.

The only updates you would get for a Canary build after leaving Insiders would be Defender definitions ans maybe the .NET updates. There will be no cumulative updates for the OS itself, security or otherwise. They would only be in the next build, which you wouldn't be getting.

It'd probably be less work to restore a pre-Canary image than doing a clean install, even if it's old. That's assuming you have one.
