I uninstalled the Vista 64 bit graphics driver and file explorer is working now and displaying as it should be. I'll try reinstalling it again - it looks pretty rubbish without it.

I did try installing explorer patcher - which made it look a bit like windows 10. But didn’t fix the file manager unfortunately so uninstalled it again. Reinstalling the graphics driver didn’t work either. So I either have a better display and an unusable file explorer (and also desktop - right click doesn’t work on desktop either). Or keep it without the graphics driver looking a bit stretched but functional. Unless I just didn’t restart explorer properly in task manager? I just right clicked on it and chose restart.

There is z as windows update though - cumulative update preview. I’ll try installing that and see if it rights anything but I doubt it as file explorer was like this from first installing.

The update didn't make any difference but this just did the trick - sort of. With option 1, the temporary option, I have the ribbon in file explorer and can use right click. With option 3, the permanent option, I have the ribbon in file explorer, but can't do right click, Can't right click on the desktop with either option though.

You can also use a third-party file manager such as Total Commander.

PS: Just a thought, the glitches you get with the graphics drivers might be due to some visual effects not displayed correctly. Try disabling all visual effects such as transparency, fades, animations. Look in Settings, System, Info, Advanced system settings, Performance, or in Settings, Accessibility, Visual effects. Disabling all visual effects the computer will be a lot faster too.

I did that already

Disabled transparency, background apps and removed one drive

I'm just confused about how using the classic ribbon as a temporary one off measure, works - to enable right clicks in file explorer, but using the permanent solution with the registry, doesn't allow right clicks in file explorer. Also not sure why right click doesn't work on desktop. Means I can't delete some icons or open the right click menu.

There is a key at the bottom right of most keyboards with horizontal lines on it that does the same job as right-click. Try this, if it works your mouse is faulty, try another mouse. If it doesn't work either, you have a bug preventing you to right-click. Does right-click work in other applications? If not, your mouse is faulty.

Yes right click works everywhere else. Right click also works in explorer and on desktop IF I remove the graphics driver!

Could this be some malware messing with Explorer? Download Superantispyware and do the complete system scan. Delete sll findings.

I don’t think so because it’s fine if I remove the graphics driver - which is on my usb stick which scans clean - had the driver for a while. And it was a clean install. Haven’t even opened a web browser yet. But yes I can scan just in case. I suspect it’s just the driver isn’t enough to handle the latest Windows 11 - it worked fine on 21.

Could you use another, even an older, version of the driver?

For me the easiest and more elegant way is including a modified unattend.xml file in the win11 iso file and you won't need anything else

Interesting. So you create a "light" download? I'm not sure that would help with my graphics driver, but it might because the early Windows 11 worked fine with it.

I hadn't thought of that - I'm not sure they're easy to find. I think I've just accepted there isn't a suitable graphics driver for it now, for that machine. It will run and display with the Microsoft basic driver but the screen is stretched obviously.

What if you let Windows Update find the graphics drivers? Isn't there a Microsoft driver for your Intel card? The Microsoft Basic Display Adapter is like the Standard VGA adapter we used back in Windows XP, Vista and 7. No hardware acceleration at all which makes the computer a lot slower than it really is. Also only standard VESA resolutions are supported, such as 800x600, 1024x768, 1280x1024 etc. Forget any wide resolutions such as 1280x800 or non-standard resolutions such as 1366x768 or 1440x900 etc.

That's what it installs if I remove the Vista driver and it leaves me with a stretched screen. It is just a 10" Eee pc - it does well to work at all!

An EEE PC has an Intel graphics card. For 915G there is no WDDM driver (in Windows Vista and 7 32-bit you can use the XP driver). For 945G there is a hacked Windows 7 64-bit driver that also works in Windows 8, 10 and 11. There is also a hacked driver for my Intel Mobile 4 family (aka GMA 4500). Use Speccy or Aida64 to see what your graphics card is. I think you said it was Intel GMA 3600, in that case see this links: Drivers for Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 3600 Series

I have the 1015PX (10") which is GMA 3150 and have the Vista 64 bit driver

It's worked before - until now.

Check the Windows 10 driver from Microsoft Update Catalog: Microsoft Update Catalog
Not sure if it is 32-bit or 64-bit, it might have both versions.

Update: It is 32-bit, but here is a 64-bit version: Intel GMA 3150 (video cards) drivers for Windows

There are two versions on that link for the same date. I'm not sure what the difference between oem12.inf and oem14.inf is? I guess I could try both. Would it not be the same as the one Intel have?

One is 32-bit and the other is 64-bit. Windows 11 is 64-bit

Ah ok so .14 inf is the 64 bit one? I'm still thinking their driver might be the same Intel Vista 64 bit one. I wasn't aware there was a Windows 64 bit one (due to Windows 10 running on 32 bit).
