Hello.

How can I make W11 ask for login only after reboot or when woke up from sleep? Right now it shows login screen after screen times out too...

Thanks.

Welcome to the forum- When requiring a login, the windows setting under settings>accounts>signin options>'when you've been away when should windows require you to signin again' also affects screen timeout as well as sleep. To prove it, change that setting to never, let the screen timeout, and you will see that it is so. You can change the number of minutes to correlate with your screen time out time. Example : if screen timeout is 5 min, set that time to 15. If you come back to your computer within 15 minutes, it shouldn't ask for login.
  • Every Time – requires you to sign in again always after the device wakes up from sleep.
  • 1 through 15 minutes – if you resume the device from sleep within the selected minutes, you won’t be required to sign in again.
I have mine set to never. I only have to enter my login at boot as it drove me nuts.

My setting was set "never". Changing this setting to either option has no effect whatsoever, when screen times out, it ask for login. I believe windows 10 had 2 different settings for screen timeout and lock timeout. Now after upgrade to w11 something is messed up in this department.

Would you please fill out your system specs section of the forum. You can get better support if we know what we're working with. Also, did you upgrade from 10 to 11 or did your computer come with 11?

It's an upgrade from w10.

I'm a bit confused about your reply though. The setting "when you've been away when should windows require you to sign in again" has only 2 options: never and when pc wakes up from sleep. There is no any kind of way change timeout. So I'm not sure what "set that time to 15" you are referring to...

Using "Policy Plus" program I removed all "configured" policies to make sure nothing interfere. After that changing "when you've been away when should windows require you to sign in again" to "never" removes login prompt on wake up and screen timeout and changing it to "when pc wakes up from sleep" asks for login on wake up AND screen timeout (WTF!). I also tried set it to "never" and then enable "Require a password when a computer wakes" in group policy, but no login prompt shown on wake up.

According to Brink's tutorial some options may not be present if you use bimetrics

Thank you very much! I had to add DelayLockInterval DWORD in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop registry with number of seconds before it locks. There are no GUI settings I could find that would allow me change this. Thanks a lot microsoft...idiots.
