Hi all,

I'm trying to get a feel for how many users are having anything resembling success using PhoneLink with IOS (iPhones 12 & higher). I have an iPhone 12 currently running IOS 17.1.1 and connecting to my desktop running 23H2 and trying real hard to get Phone Link 1.23092.158.0 (latest baseline version) to work as advertised. I'm convinced this app is not ready for primetime. I'd like to take the blame as the user, but frankly it's so dead simple I'm not sure the user has the ability to screw things up.

Here's what happens to me:
  • Take the phone out of range of the desktop and bring it back. The BT on the phone reconnects with the desktop (shows up as connected in the BT list), but the PL app says it's lost the connection and wants to report this to MS as a "problem". The only solution that works is to recycle the BT connection from the phone. (The app isn't talking to the BT layer correctly). Interestingly enough, I have a simliar situation doing BT associations in my car with the same solution, recycling BT. Given that, the common item seems to be the phone.
  • Sometimes (seemingly randomly) trying to send messages from the phone while connected to the app resluts in no record of a message sent in the app. When this happens the entire conversation fails to update on the app.
  • If I send a message (text) from the app it shows up on the phone, but responses to the message only appear on the phone and not the app. (Again , I suspect the app and BT aren't in sync).
  • Is anybody seeing or are we even supposed to get any graphics (i.e., pics) on the app when sent via text messaging (either iMessage or SMS) on the Phone Link App? If so, I'm not seeing anything. It's like the app just ignores anything other than ASCII text. (I am curious if this works for Android users).
  • So far, I only use this app for messaging (not all that successfully). I haven't tried to make any calls yet. Are calls on the desktop using the app functioning via the desktop microphone and selected audio out (i.e. speakers)?
  • I haven't found any real useful documentation on the app, so if anyone has any "observations" on how to use this app as advertised (with IOS) they'd care to share, it would be appreciated.
I'm wondering what "version" of BT is in use here. I know between 4.x and 5.x there are many new unlying capabilities (BT/LE etc.) and if this might be the underlying cause if these problems.

I know that Apple tightly controls it's capabilities, especially iMessage and sharing is not their strong suit. I applaud MS for even attempting to get this app to work with IOS and hope they will continue to try to get this to work, but right now, at least from my perspective it needs a lot of work to live up to the advertised capabilities.

Cheers.

I have an iPhone 13 Pro Max and Phone Link has been working great for me and I love it!

I especially love the integration with Windows notifications where 2FA TOTP messages are detected and I just click "Copy" in the popup notification window. For some reason, TOTP messages from Walmart.com do not get detected by Windows notifications, but all their other text messages do.

Surprisingly, the vast majority of people report a better audio when I speak through my PC instead of the iPhone.

Same for me (13 Pro Max).
