MY ISP is bsnl and I am getting internet access through the telephonic connection. It also provides wifi, thro my dlink 2750 U router.
When I select ethernet connection, the speed shows 100 mb speed.
When I select wifi the speed given is 300 mbs.
So, should I opt wireless connection instead of wired connection.
Anyhow, the adsl speed download and upload are maximum up to 10 mbps in ethernet connection.
Then how, it gives speed of 300 mbs in wifi connection through the same telephonic connection with broadband copper wired connection.
The Adsl settings is adsl2 plus adsl2+ without any expeansion of annex L M etc.
Should I enable L or M , to optimize my speed

its between your router and network adapter connection on motherboard so it doesnt matter how router or dsl modem connects to ISP's DSLAM.. its probably your ethernet network adapter that doesnt support speed above 100Mbits/s unless its specifically put at 100 in device manager advanced settings of network adapter

Hi, Cromax,
From what you say, could I take in to mean that my wireless adapter status speed is shown the capability and not actual speed.
My query is , if I select wifi connection thro the broadband settings , I will get maximum speed.. Is it correct
I mean, that the preinstalled pc, has the wifi adapter connection settings, that support wifi connection and realtek adapter for ethernet connection.
If i choose the wifi adapter connection, it shows 300 mbs speed status.
Whereas, If i choose the ethernet connection, it only gives 100mbs speed.
Does the speed over wifi more than ethernet in my case.
please clarify. If i enable my ethernet the maximum capable speed is 100 mbs only.

No matter what you internet speed is coming into your home from your provider, the speed you actually get on your computer depends on the limitations of your equipment. Each component of a network has to be capable of running the speed your plan lets you have. This includes your modem, router and computer network adapters, whether they be wired or wireless adapters. Interference in your home also affects speed. Here is a good explanation provided by Cox, an internet provider in the US.

It doesn't matter what the node you use, Ethernet or WiFi, the speed depends on the ISP !
If your ISP, BSNL has promised 10 mbps, that is what you will get, whatever the speed the WiFi or the Ethernet shows.
Have you checked the actual speed you get via any speed test ?

Test both wired and wireless using using this site. Speedtest by Ookla - The Global Broadband Speed Test

Your wired connection probably is a gigabit (10/100/1000)adapter which has a capable speed limit of 1 Gbps which equals 1000Mbps. To get optimum speed, you ethernet cabling from your router has to be rated cat6 for optimun speed. 10/100 is supported when using Cat5 cables.Older house cabling may be rated cat5 which slows speed.. To get 1000Mbps speed, your house cabling has to be rated at cat6 or above.

You have one of the latest and greatest wifi adapters, as opposed to having an older generation ethernet adapter. Per Intel, with your wifi-6, 9.6 Gbps is the maximum throughput of Wi-Fi 6 across multiple channels. (That's 96100 Mbps which is capable of speeds 9 times that of your ethernet. That's not to say you will get that speed, only that the wifi adapter is capable of it) It is a vastly improved wifi providing faster speeds and less latency. That is why your speed is faster when you run wirelessly. The 2 devices, your ethernet adapter and wireless adapter, handle the network traffic differently. Here's intel article. What Is Wi-Fi 6? - Intel

If you get higher speeds running wirelessly, then it's a no-brainer. Connect wirelessly.

I can not help you with L and M settings. In all honesty, I am not familiar with them. I always just use the router's wireless setup wizard and the router sets itself to optimal performance. I'm sure someone will step in and give advice on that.

Hope this all makes sense.

I had this situation recently...wired 89 Mbps, wireless 360 Mbps. I keep a really long Cat 5 cable on hand for testing purposes and used it to bypass the cable that runs from the router in another room and just like that, 360+ Mbps. I picked up a shorter cat 6 cable and went crawling under the house and replaced what must have been some outdated, old standard ethernet cable.

Most of the times, the cable category is printed on the cable. If not, you won't be able to identify the cable category by colour or RJ45 connector, but CAT6 cables are often thicker than CAT5e cables because it uses thicker copper wires. Cat5e cable are just a four pair cable set enclosed in a jacket whereas Cat6 cables have a internal separator that isolate pair from one another. This article explains and shows a photo. What is the difference between Cat5 and Cat6?

Everybody responding to this thread - in post #1 @jraju told us that they are using a Dlink 2750 U router. Before you start talking about CAT 5 and CAT 6 cables and network adapter settings in the computer, you might want to look at the specs for the Dlink 2750 U router. It only has "4 x Fast Ethernet (1 switchable WAN)" ports. The router is only capable of 100 mbps on ethernet. It is not a gigabit router!

This is a moot point, however, if @jraju only has 1 computer and is only using the network to connect to the 10 mbps internet connection.

Something like this:

Just be advised that moving from CAT 5 to CAT 6 ethernet cable is not going to change anything. The router is only capable of 100 mbps ethernet. To get faster ethernet, the router needs to be upgraded. But the internet speed is still capped at 10 mbps, so unless there are multiple computers connected on the LAN you are trying to connect together, upgrading the router is not going to change anything either.

Hi, Navylcdr
I know that my router is capable of 100 mbps speed as ethernet router. But I think that you have not seen the point of my query.
I have a pc, that has both ethernet and wireless adapters. With the same wireless adapters, my status speed is shown as 300mbs speed, I asked if i have to change my connection to wireless to get more speed , within my limited bandwidth.
Cat 5 limitation is one such pointer by the suggestor for increase in my data speed and it works. I changed my ethernet cable to cat 5 to cat 6 and i did notice improvement in speed. The article that the suggestor given in the link really helped me on this.
So, please reconsider your reply that there is not related replies to the queries .
My router has settings for both ethernet and wifi with the same service provider.
Hi, Glasscuter thanks for the suggestion on cat 6 to improve the data speed .

Good catch!!
It is if I have raised my query on gigabit router.
I have pointedly asked about telephonic broadband connection thro pppoe, which does not support that much speed as gigabits

Duly reconsidered. Make sure your computer's ethernet adapter supports gigabit. Make sure you are using CAT 6 cable. You will still only get a 100 mps connection to your current router, and you will still only get 10 mbps internet speed from your ISP. If you choose to go with WiFi you will get a 300 mbps LAN connection and still get only 10 mbps internet speed from your ISP. Have a nice day/evening.

Thanks.
previously I was using cat5, which reduced my speed considerably. On switching to cat 6 this has got improved.
It is a new thing to me, as I did not know the difference between cat5 and cat 6. I checked and bought the cat6e yesterday.
Please let me know, how on wifi it gets 300 mbs , and on ethernet 100 mbs. This is entirely news to me.
Is there a relation between the speeds between wired and wireless
