I have Windows 7, Window 10, and Window 11 computers, and the operating system wifi behavior (not signal strength or other hardware or protocol issues) has got worse with each version. I noticed after using Windows 10 that it took a very long time (30 sec or more) to detect new networks (even if they have strong signal strength) and also a lag (30 sec or more) in auto-connecting to known networks -- this was in contrast to Windows 7 that would detect me turning on my hotspot within a few seconds and immediately pounce on it. Windows 11 is actually worse -- it has the same slowness as W10, but it also has a terrible problem with claiming it still "sees" my hotspot for a minute or so after I turn off the hotspot -- indeed, it will still "see" it even if I SHUT OFF the phone entirely to be sure there's no signal. Even more amazing, if I shut off the laptop's wifi and then turn it back on, it will STILL "see" the powered-off phone hotspot and immediately try to reconnect. Thus it will sit there with no connection even though there's other known wifi networks that are available (that it sees as well) that it should be auto-connecting to.
I suspect this problem is due to some overly-aggressive and ill-designed attempt at improving power management, but it is damn annoying to have to manually tell it to disconnect from the phantom network, because doing so undoes the auto-connect setting for the wifi network in question.
So, I'm hoping there's some setting buried somewhere in the adapter or W11 network settings that will make it behave more like good ol' Windows 7?
