I have a folder full of images. In the folder I have them sorted a certain way, lets say date ascending. When I select the top most image in the folder and open it in Photo Viewer, It's all good. But when I "scroll" to the next one, it jumps to a random image in the folder. Presumably Photo Viewer is going to the next one based on its default sorted format, and not of the folder. This is frustrating to say the least. I want Images to scroll in Photo Viewer in the same order of how I have it sorted in the folder. Is there any way to do this?

To change photo viewing in a specific folder click Start>all apps>photos>select folder>in toolbar click up/down arrow icon to set sort selection>click on first photo to start photo viewer. The pictures in that particular folder should view by whatever sorting option you chose.

Its the default image viewer for Win 11 so far as I know. I appreciate features in this that Win10 Photo Viewer didn't have. But if this is going to be an issue, Ill just switch back to Photo Viewer. Friggin' stupid names lol "Photos" vs "Photo Viewer". ugh

Thank you for bringing this option to my attention. This is helpful. But i'd still like to know how to view images in order that the folder is sorted, right from the folder itself. Double-click image, done, type of thing. Do not have this issue with Photo Viewer, Win 10 default image viewer. This thread is regarding "Photos", Win 11 default image viewer. Though "Photo Viewer" Is still accessible on Win 11 if need be.
Forgive me for the topic mistype.

Seems to work fine here..., except for that fact that I'm turning my scroll wheel backwards to progress through the folder-ascending! 🤷‍♂️

See if your answer is here.
If that's what you want you will need to change default app for the file types you have from Photos to Photos Legacy.

Unfortunately Photos Legacy has the exact same issue. It'll go through a batch fine, and then just randomly skip to another batch of images or even shuffle. They do not scroll in the order set in the folder. Ultimately, All images are included, incase I gave the impression images are being skipped and outright. Just their order is being skipped. I tested some stuff out to make sure Im not cra.... k, well juries out on that, but tried to figure out exactly how the app IS sorting them. For the life of me, I can't figure it out. I arranged the folder by date (a/d) Name (a/d), and type(a/d) with and without groups... Photos Is not doing it randomly, like reshuffling each session, but it is absolutely randomizing the order somehow. Is there a random/shuffle option that I'm just not seeing?
I don't have this issue with Windows Photo Viewer (the Win10 image viewer)... Buuuuuuuuut... It just occured to me why I prefer Win 11 Photos/Photos-Legacy and have been staying away for Windows Photo Viewer like the plague. Images viewed in Win 10 Photo Viewer are 3-4 times darker for some reason. AND errors occur with too many images saying that there isn't enough memory or something. This is just dumb. You know how some companies have been caught screwing with their phones and whatnot, I swear thats what they did with Windows Photo Viewer. Used to be solid. Now Win11 Photos and Photos Legacy is doin' this janky crap.

Windows is weird!
If it's any consolation, I still use Picasa Photo Viewer! Works as expected!
