Hello, i have a little problem, i removed all the ms office items from the context menu when you click "New" by deleting the ShellNew folders in registry BUT the ms Access keeps coming back after a couple of days, only the the Access. I have this problem with both office 2019 and office 2021 and even with windows 10 2 months ago. Is there any solution to this ?? Thanks in advance !!

I attached the .reg file if anyone wants to check it.

I have an additional key renamed to disable New Access DB via the context menu. I had the same issue as you. Disabled .accdb and next time I booted up it came back. Then I disabled .MDB and all is well.

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.mdb\ShellNew

So in your reg file it should look like
; Microsoft Access Database
[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.accdb\Access.Application.16\ShellNew]
[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.mdb\ShellNew]

In my first post I uploaded my .reg file and there is the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.mdb\ShellNew as well.
I verify that in the registry and it was deleted. The ms access in context menu doesn't appear in the next boot but after 2-3 days. It's very strange. I even delete the msaccess.exe or whatever the name is and it's re-created after 2-3 days too.

After Office installed an update the keys reverted back and the context menu item reappeared. Im using a portable app called ShellNewHandler. Its easier to run the app and uncheck the boxes. I attached it to this post. Below is the link to the site.

On my Windows 7 machine I have similar problem where my printer settings revert back to default after every boot. I was told its a permission issue. I was never able to fix it, so I create a shortcut in the Start up folder that pointed to a registry file to change the settings every time I log on. You could try something similar, but I know you want a real solution.

Just in case someone else wants to do something like this you would create a shortcut in your startup folder
From the run dialog or explorer window copy, paste and enter the following
Code:
shell:startup
Right click and choose New > Shortcut
For the target enter the following line with quotes
Code:
regedit /s "C:\Sample Path\Your Reg File.reg"
Edit the path and at startup the reg file will be executed without prompts or messages.

Again I know you want a fix and to figure out why the settings are reverting back. I just thought I would post the full instructions for the work around.

You are talking about the ms access in the context menu or all the ms items (word, powerpoint etc) ?? Cause I don't have any problem with those, only with access.

Try renaming the ShellNew key to //ShellNew
I did that in the past but instead //ShellNew i renamed it to qShellNew or something like that, with one more letter at the beginning, no success....
I will try again with the //ShellNew next time it will appeared

Worth a shot though!

Then, the only way is to install the office without the access. We must had that choice but Microsoft thinks different.... I think there is a way to do that but I must to do some research.

I really can't see as it makes that much difference. I can't see as it's worth all that effort of uninstalling and reinstalling (which isn't that easy in Office 2019) All you have to do is run the tweak every now and again and it's gone

Probably that is what I will do. I'm tired to find a way to get rig of that annoying thing. But what do you mean by saying is difficult to uninstall the office 2019 ??

When I had to do a reinstall once, I found that there are many things left over and embedded. I used the uninstall tool as well. I found it will not keep all your settings, signatures etc. so make sure you do good backups and images. It was the same when I wanted to upgrade from 2016 to 2019, again a lot of trouble and I could not just install the new version, I had to uninstall the old one first. A bit vague as it was a couple of years ago but I hope it is helpful

After all the replies I see only two options. A custom deployment having omitted Access or a shortcut in the startup folder pointing to the reg file to remove the menu item on every boot.

I tried the shortcut and I manually recreate the ShellNew folder in registry to test it, didn't work. If I run the shortcut by myself works but no on startup. I tried also to do it with Task Scheduler, some times works some times do not.

Doesn't work either. When i manually run the shortcut with double click it works, but when i reboot the pc with the shortcut in the startup folder the ShellNew folder in registry is still there. Anyway, i want a permanent solution and if there isn't i will keep deleting manually the ShellNew folder when it appears. Thank you ALL !!!!
