Win11_23H2_EnglishInternational_x64v2.iso - why when I download this, mount it and click on Setup.exe as administrator does it refuse to do anything?

Hello. I'm trying to do a Repair Install using this iso, but I can't get the mounted version to run. I've tried uninstalling Bitdefender compleltely using the correct tool and even disabled Defender. As far as i know, I have nothing else that could interfere. Has anyone any ideas?

I thought someone on another thread said I can only do this with the iso, so as to keep all my own files, data and settings?

Where did you download the iso from? Perhaps it's corrupted or dodgy.

The preferred method is to create the .ISO first using the MCT since MCT may crash half way through an upgrade. The .ISO method should be far faster as well.

From what I remember, there is a few prerequisites when doing an in-place upgrade: one of which is the language must match your current language settings, and the build number of the .ISO must be the same or greater than your current build number.

It looks like you need at least 20GB of free space too:
You will need at least 20 GB of free space on the Windows drive to perform an in-place upgrade.

It's on my Desktop, but I've just tried it from a USB drive - same result. Since it gets mounted to an H drive wherever it's mounted from, does it matter?

If you are attempting to do a Repair Install, the following restrictions apply -

You will only be able to perform a repair install of Windows 11 from within Windows 11. You will not be able to perform a repair install at boot or in Safe Mode.
The Windows 11 installation media (ISO or USB) must be the same edition, same version, and same or higher build as the currently installed Windows 11.
The Windows 11 installation media (ISO or USB) must be for the same language as your currently installed Windows 11.

Technically when mounted it is really still on the C Drive as far as I know. But it’s strange it won’t run from a USB. Perhaps one of the restrictions @IanMosley mentions may be to blame.

@Tombar's time zone is the same as mine, so probably in the UK like me. If so, then English International is the correct one.

However, even if it was the wrong language, that wouldn't explain why Setup.exe doesn't even run.

You need to be signed in as an administrator to run this, a standard user would get a UAC prompt asking for an admin account and password.

I used it to make a bootable USB drive, but it says it can't do a repair from a removable drive, only a clean installation

Just a question - why does it give the possibility of burning the iso to DVD when it's too big for a DVD?

I've tried my normal account and my Administrator account. I don't get any prompts or any error or anything at all - just nothing happens!

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update.
